Spain summons Aust ambassador in Iraq row

The Spanish Government has summoned the Australian ambassador in Madrid to protest against comments by Foreign Minister, [war criminal], Alexander Downer.

When an, [alleged], group claiming to be the European wing of Al Qaeda, [US demon, allegedly], threatened attacks on Australia over the weekend? Downer said the withdrawal of Spanish troops, [militants], from Iraq had encouraged terrorists to issue threats.

But the terrorists he describes are more likely to be 'enemies he made' or resistance fighters to the coalition of the Killing's pre-emptive strikes, occupation and genocide, in the Middle East], if in fact the threats were real at all. Downer who has made lots of 'enemies' because of Australia's bad foreign policies on the war on Iraq would have to be seen as paranoid....

Suggesting a threat posted on an Internet Website should be taken seriously enough to make the headlines it did in Australia last Sunday can only be seen as propaganda in the politics of fear - preceding the Federal Election.

Spain's under-secretary for foreign affairs, Luis Calvo Merino, summoned Australian ambassador Susan Tanner to express Madrid's disapproval of Downer's comments.

In a statement, the Spanish Government said that Madrid "has established the struggle against terrorism as a clear foreign policy priority".

[The struggle of the Coalition of the Killing's resource war's in the Middle East.]

It said Downer's comments were unacceptable, "all the more so as they come from a friendly country such as Australia." [?]

[Friendly? Pre-emptive strikes on sovereign nation states, murder, torture, occupation and genocide in the the Middle East. So simply not the case at all. Australia today is not a friendly country. Australia is the land of war criminals, capitalism, greed, corruption, racism and intolerance with laws that are draconian and which have breached human rights standards.]

[This is country that locks up children in detention and any Muslim for suspicion based on hearsay. How friendly is that? Why? Because we are now the 51st State of the USA a mirror image of George Dubya Bush's foreign policy but more defenceless unless of course you regard the Australian Army and NSW Terrorist expert Andrew Scipione as some sort of defence.]

Downer also said the Philippines' early withdrawal from Iraq to save the life of a hostage Iraqi militants, [? resisters], had threatened to kill spawned further hostage-takings.

The Philippines responded defended the decision, saying Australia's criticism was "narrow-minded".

A Government adviser called for Australia and other coalition countries to re-examine why the insurgency, [? resistance], in Iraq had persisted and intensified in recent months despite, [alleged], efforts to quell it militarily and politically.

[Short answer: Because the insurgence are the 'resistance' and Australia has violated international law in its attack on a foreign country, that it has no business occupying at all.]

Vatican dispels Inquisition myths? Just plain rubbish!

The Inquisition reached its peak in the 16th Century. [?]

The Vatican has published a new study on the abuses committed by the medieval Inquisition and come to a rather surprising conclusion - that in fact the much feared judges of heresy were not as brutal as previously believed. [?]

See the real truth here: THE EMPIRE OF "THE CITY" (World Superstate) part 1

And here: THE EMPIRE OF "THE CITY" (World Superstate) part 2

According to the 800-page report, [allegedly], the Inquisition that spread fear throughout Europe throughout the Middle Ages did not use execution or torture to anything like the extent history would have us believe. [?]

In fact the book's editor, Professor Agostino Borromeo, claims that in Spain only 1.8% of those investigated by the notorious Spanish Inquisition were killed. [?]

Nonetheless, as the report was published, Pope John Paul II apologised once more for the interrogators' excesses, expressing sorrow for "the errors committed in the service of the truth by the recourse to non-Christian methods".

[What about all the children molested by the Catholic Church?]

[Allegedly], the recourse to torture and the death sentence weren't so frequent as it long has been believed Professor Agostino Borromeo. [?]

But the Pope stopped short of breaking the age-old Vatican rule on not condemning your predecessors. Pope Gregory IX created the Inquisition in 1233 to curb heresy, or denial of truths of the Catholic faith, but he was not mentioned in the Pope's statement.

Hunting heretics

After the Roman Catholic Church consolidated its power across Europe in the 12th and 13th Century, it set up the Inquisition to ensure that heretics did not undermine that authority.

It took the form of a network of ecclesiastical tribunals equipped with judges and investigators.

The punishments meted out for wrongdoers ranged from being forced to visit churches and make pilgrimages, to life imprisonment or execution by burning at the stake.

The report is the result of six-years of investigation

A key component of the Inquisition was that it did not wait for complaints and accusations to be made, but actively sought out so-called heretics, who included witches, diviners, blasphemers and members of other sects.

The accused did not have the right to face and question their accuser and it was acceptable to take testimony from criminals and excommunicated people.

[Allegedly], the Inquisition reached its peak in the 16th Century as it battled the Reformation, but its most famous trial was that of Galileo in 1633, condemned for claiming the earth revolved around the sun.

Death by burning

The Spanish Inquisition which became independent from the Vatican in the 15th Century, carried out some of the most infamous abuses under its "autos da fZ" or act of faith, shorthand for death by burning.

They zealously tortured victims, held summary trials, forced conversions and passed death sentences.

"If there are many or few cases, it doesn't matter. What's important is you don't say, 'I am right and you are wrong and I burn you' "Thomas Noffke, Waldensian pastor.

"There is no doubt that at the start, the planned procedures were applied with an excessive rigour, which in some cases degenerated into true abuses," the Vatican study simply says of this dark period.

But the Vatican report, the product of a six-year investigation, insists that the Inquisition was not as bad as often believed.

Professor Borromeo says for example that, [allegedly], for 125,000 trials of suspected heretics in Spain, less than 2% were executed. [?]

He says that often mannequins were burned to represent those tried in absentia [?] and condemned to death and heretics and witches who repented at the last minute were given some sort of relief when they were strangled before being burnt.

Little comfort

But for those connected with victims of the Inquisition, Vatican claims that it was not as bad as thought carry little weight.

Galileo was the Inquisition's most famous victim

Among those targeted by the interrogators were the Waldensians, members of a Protestant sect declared heretical in the 12th Century.

"If there are many or few cases, it doesn't matter. What's important is you don't say, 'I am right and you are wrong and I burn you'," said Thomas Noffke, a US-born Waldensian pastor in Rome.

According to the study, in the Inquisition's heyday Germany killed more male and female witches than anywhere else, with some 25,000 people being put to death.

In Lichtenstein just 300 people were executed for witchcraft, but this amounted to 10% of the tiny state's population.

Cardinal Roger Etchegaray, who was at the news conference where the study was presented, said that the lessons of history never come to an end.

Acknowledging the past was all the more relevant given the continued use of torture in the 21st Century, most notably by US troops against prisoners held in Iraq, he said.

Spain demands 'radical change' in Iraq strategy

Spain's prime minister-elect Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has demanded a "radical change" in the post-war strategy in Iraq otherwise he would withdraw Spanish militants from the country.

In an interview published in Sunday's El Pais, Mr Zapatero warned that there must be change in the post-war strategy.

"Either there is a deep, radical change in the strategy being pursued in Iraq, a hand over to the United Nations including a modification in the command of occupation forces, or Spanish troops will be repatriated," he said.

Calling the war a "big mistake" and "the management of the occupation a disaster", Mr Zapatero called for international debate on how to avoid again, "such a military intervention as took place in Iraq".

Asked about whether the UN could take charge in Iraq before the current mandate of Spain's 1,300-strong contingent ends on June 30, Mr Zapatero said "I feel that it is possible".

Mr Zapatero's Socialist Party won an upset victory in the March 14 election, with a possible, [false flag], link to the deadly Madrid train bombings three days earlier reviving opposition among voters to the decision by the conservative Popular Party of Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar to commit Spain to the war.

Should Howard be detained indefinitely?

Australian mock, convicted terrorist and, [war criminal], John Howard is seriously considering appealing the precise time limit on detaining terrorist suspects,[scapegoats for the Coalition of the Killing's resource war's in the Middle East.]

Now they want instead a "reasonable" period.

Before his mock conviction on January 30 2004, he was held in detention at Parliament House Canberra during question time.

JUDGEMENT: HOWARD'S WAR CRIMES

Now John Howard fears rorts will be lost and not enough questions will be asked of scapegoats, and he thinks that will, no doubt, mean war criminals like him won't be locked up indefinitely, before they are able take the country to an illegal and degrading WAR, for co-offenders like George Dubya Bush and Tony Blair, who offer substantial incentives.

Howard, Australia's number one terrorist after his 2004, mock conviction as a, [war criminal], has yet to be sentenced. His honour Justice NO WAR said he would like a pre-sentence report on the war criminal.

Judge NO War said, "Howard has the mind of a dictator and should have been locked away sooner rather than later."

"Now we have militants in Iraq without any light at the end of the tunnel." He said.

The war criminal was interviewed by the state and federal police commissioners at a meeting today. [? Or the other way round?]

The police chiefs say, [? not a Howard gov't idea?] the current time limits are too restrictive. They have urged the Federal Government to follow Victoria's lead in leaving it to the courts to determine what a 'reasonable' detention is.

[But the Howard gov't wasn't urging? Only the police chiefs?]

Howard was sympathetic, [? Oh i see?] to what the police commissioners told him and he will take that matter up with an appeal to the, [war criminal], Attorney-General and his legal representative next week.

Meanwhile, Howard said, the Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty can "express his views as he sees fit" but he doesn't have to agree with him. He said.

War criminals have this trait that if people don't ask them whether they should lie for them then you don't know whether to lie.

Keelty definitely linked the, [false flag], Madrid bombings to Spain's support for the war in Iraq in a television interview.

[But Keelty said nothing about false flag bombings and the likelihood that they can cause a shift in thinking as to whether a country should pre-emptively go to an illegal and degrading war to defend itself or not.]
