Justice Minister Chris Ellison said Lebanese authorities were considering asking Australia to return Bilal and Maher Khazal after they were convicted [in a military tribunal?] in Absentia of [allegedly],helping finance a terrorist group that bombed a McDonald's outlet in Lebanon in April. But no formal request had been received.

A court source in Beirut said last night he believed negotiations for the extradition were under way."
But the head of the law school at Charles Darwin University, Ned Aughterson, an extradition expert, said the men could fight their return all the way to the High Court, potentially delaying it by months or even years.
"At an extradition hearing before a magistrate they can consent to extradition or insist on a full hearing. They might argue they did not get a fair hearing in Lebanon," Professor Aughterson said.
"They have the right to review before the Federal Court, and it can go all the way to the High Court."
War criminal, John Howard said the men could not be charged here because they had not committed an offence in Australia.
"They've committed an offence in Lebanon. They have been convicted of that offence and we will extradite them if we are asked by Lebanon," the war criminal, John Howard said.
A spokesman for Australia's mufti Sheikh Taj Din al-Hilali also questioned whether the rules of natural justice had applied in the trial conducted by military tribunals, particularly because the Khazals had not been there.
"There is no suggestion that they've been involved in acts of violence in this country," the spokesman said.
But Senator Ellison said any concerns about the fairness of the trial should be taken up with Lebanese authorities. [Sure?]
What he didn't say was that it wasn't fair in respect of his knowledge and understanding of fairness in the civilised world.
Ellison: "The finding of guilt is one made by the Lebanese judicial system and there is an avenue of appeal, as I understand it," Senator Ellison said.
[Since when is a military tribunal a judicial system? He knows it!]
So if the Australian authorities run off and canvass to obtain the justice for others here in Australia for some self serving purpose, they can now send people off for less justice somewhere else? And at least there is an appeal process by a dodgy court that's "more likely than not" I dare say to be held "In their absents".
Opposition homeland security spokesman Robert McClelland said the Government was being "remarkably complacent" if it were just waiting to see if Lebanon made a request for extradition.
"At the very least they should be making contact with the Lebanese to explain what our extradition laws require," Mr McClelland said.
At the very least Australian authorities already made contact Mr McClelland and in fact most likely are behind the investigation from the very outset.
In other words Bilal and Maher donated funds to others and somehow details were found about the transaction. Authorities profiled the potential for Bilal and Maher to serve the God's Bush, Blair and Howard to sustain the terrorist ideology! And Howard's dollar signs start ringing for another election bell in his small pea brain, while George Bush has his pants down.
Unconscionable I tell you, that Howard goes to such lengths to satisfy his own self-gratification opposing human rights and human dignity.
The men's lawyer, Adam Houda, said the conviction was "unsound" and contrary to evidence presented to the trial.
Mr Houda said any extradition attempt would be "vigorously defended". Mr Houda said Bilal and Maher were unsure whether they would appeal the sentence and had not yet heard from Lebanese or Australian authorities.
"We are not taking it too seriously at the moment, it's a bit of a joke," he said.
"To put it into perspective, he was convicted and sentenced in our absence in a military court with a complete disregard for the rules of evidence."
Bilal Khazal did not leave his bungalow in the southwestern Sydney suburb of Lakemba yesterday. His family directed all inquiries to his lawyer.
A spokesman for Foreign Minister Alexander Downer confirmed that Maher Khazal still held a current Australian passport. Bilal Khazal's passport was cancelled on January 31 after security concerns were raised about his connections with terrorist organisations.
