Anti-liberty laws should never be passed

Law Council president John North said the laws were flawed because they allowed people to be held without charge. "There's no amount of tinkering with those laws that can save the badness of that particular law," he said.

THE Federal Dictatorship has rejected a last ditch bid by Australia's peak lawyer body to scrap new anti-Liberty laws which should never be passed by any parliament.

[Draconian scapegoat laws for the Coalition of the Killing's resource war's in the Middle East.]

The Law Council of Australia placed advertisements in newspapers in an 11th hour bid to stop police getting tough new powers to detain suspects without charge.

[Or lock innocent people up for a 'quick' 20 years for thought crime?]

The Sin-ate [allegedly] started debate on the new laws yesterday and the Dictatorship is expected to order them today.

Law Council president John North said the laws were flawed because they allowed people to be held without charge.

"There's no amount of tinkering with those laws that can save the badness of that particular law," he said.

He said sedition laws were too broad and restricted freedom of speech for journalists and the public.

[Yes but with the greatest respect your Honour, I wonder what my friend Mr North would be able to say if he were being held in a box within a box with no fresh air or sunlight at the HRMU Goulburn Prison for 20 Years for a thought crime?]

Faheem Lodhi - another non-terrorist jailed under Australia's 'anti-terror' laws?

Jack Thomas, a non-terrorist, has been jailed under Australia's anti-terror laws. Now Faheem Lodhi has been convicted under the terror laws on flimsy, circumstantial evidence. It is likely he is another non-terrorist jailed for political purposes under the terror laws.

John North: "This law, if you look at it very closely, not only has the ability to not only curb free speech on behalf of the media, but to actually stop legitimate protests and other things because of the breadth they've drawn the law," Mr North said.

Government Sin-ator robert hill, a war criminal, told parliament the council, which did not necessarily represent the views of all legal professionals, was entitled to comment, but the Government stood by the laws.

"The Government has responsibility to safeguard the Australian people - it's the primary responsibility of government," Sin-ator hill said.

[Draconian Laws to safe guard the ruling-class.]

But not those scapegoats held in 'solitary confinement' for the alleged war on terror, set up by ASIO fishing expeditions and cross-country raids on districts?

[In particular your Honour Draconian Laws to help bolster support and to quell dissent for the Coalition of the Killing's illegal and degrading resource war's in the Middle East.]

Hill: "It seeks to do that with the minimum loss of civil liberties but we recognise that in the extraordinary circumstances of effectively tackling terrorism sometimes it is necessary to make sacrifices."

Extraordinary circumstances meaning waging illegal and degrading wars and committing war crimes against humanity?

The Dictatorship has agreed to refer the sedition section of the bill to an inquiry by the Australian Law Reform Commission?

A previous critic of the sedition section, Liberal senator George Brandis, said Government amendments would guarantee freedom of speech.

Selective Sedition

But only guarantee freedom of speech to pro-government right wing officials, personalities, and publishers and not peasants, dissenters and unpopular people in a selective way?

When the pro-government media scream 'Terrorist' who will believe you?

Opposition justice spokesman Joe Ludwig argued the section on sedition should be removed from the bill.

But that's no opposition the bill should be scraped because it is offensive to the people of the Australian Constitution.

Links at the bottom of this article and the following link to the very Publik blog also has links that will give the reader most of all of the chronology in relation to Draconian Laws now implemented across Australia.

These laws are a 'crime within themselves' and all should be 'repealed' forthwith, or else you should be aware of where you stand in relation to the ruling class.

In short for the Rudd government to rely on these laws means our constitution is seriously flawed and the truth is no longer the truth.
So help me Universe.

Updated 2009

The house raids are 'fishing expeditions of suburbs'. Their objective is to find as much common handyman hardware, common internet and reading material, or anything that they can use as a conspiracy theory against a person. And to claim that material was going to be used for terrorist activity. But if police raid a whole suburb without probable cause then no doubt they could easily find such material. They don't need 'probable cause'. In other words they don't need to state what it is they're looking for prior the raid? Nor why they are raiding etc...

Media concerned despite anti-terrorism changes
Federal Coalition MPs approved the anti-terrorism measures yesterday, allowing the sedition provisions to remain in the bill.

DPP should lose the plot!
Another of john hoWARd (the coward's) 'demons' used as 'fodder' to introduce Anti-Terrorism legislation - based on some notion that this man is a threat. Yet his case and others has been endless and has not been heard since the introduction of the last Anti-terror laws!

Dangerous handyman terror threat?
Defence barrister Phillip Boulten SC told the court his client's charges are based on the most marginal evidence. Mr Boulten argued there was no suggestion the material would be used for any terrorism related activity.

Guilty until proven innocent - justice in the `war on terror'
In the week in which PM John Howard's support as preferred prime minister dropped to a three-year low, the arrest of 17 people in Sydney and Melbourne on November 7-8, allegedly for planning a terrorist attack [scapegoats to bolster support and quell dissent for the Coalition of the Killing's resource wars in the Middle East], was exceedingly fortunate timing for the federal government.

With its unprecedented powers of secret arrest and detention without trial, the retrospective aspect of control orders, and extended definitions of sedition, the Federal Government's extraordinary new counter-terrorism legislation threatens our way of life no less than terrorism.

Prime Minister Guilty of Sedition
These proposed laws break internationally recognised treaties on human rights, overturn the fundamental principle of presumption of innocence, and seriously threaten free speech and protest.

Nazi tones in John Howard's anti-terror laws, says Malcolm Fraser
FORMER Liberal prime minister Malcolm Fraser has suggested parts of the Howard Government's anti-terror package resemble measures taken by Adolf Hitler and says Kim Beazley's handling of opposition to the package should determine his leadership.

Arbitrary Detention and Magna Carta
Perhaps some rear-view vision may help you when considering the laws now being proposed regarding arbitrary detention. It is somewhat gratifying that international treaties are belatedly being cited as reasons to oppose this slide into dictatorship, but it is odd that no-one seems to remember what underpins our personal freedom here and the whole of our legal system.

Australia's 'Anti-Terrorism' Bill: the framework for a police state Over the past month, Prime Minister John Howard and the six Australian state premiers and two territory chief ministers have joined hands to draft draconian new laws that will erect the juridical scaffolding for a police-state. The Anti-Terrorism Bill 2005 is unprecedented in both its content and in the conspiratorial methods that have been employed to push it through the state and federal parliaments.

ASIO settle wrongful detention case out of court

The race that doesn't stop the nation
CANBERRA: And welcome to Canberra on the first Tuesday in November for the race that doesn't stop the nation. The Anti-Terrorism Cup. The final horses are being brought into the barriers, and we are almost ready for the start.

Constitution: Defending Against State Terror and Despots
Australia has no major laws that are not derivatives of English Law and all of our major laws rely on British court precedents for interpretation and implementation. These laws and our Constitutional Monarchy system create a situation where, even if Howard and all State Premiers vote unanimously on the Anti-Terrorist laws, and every ALP/Dem/Lib/Nat/Green party hack also votes unanimously on their laws, and even if such laws are given Royal Assent, those laws are still void.

Open Letter to Australian Senate
Every West Australian needs to take note of the proposed terror legislation that will be debated in the Senate next Tuesday. Our own Premier has sold us out, and the time has come for some serious and organised protest in WA to protect our democracy and civil liberties. Write to the Senate, to the papers, and to every political party. This is a fundamental issue that affects the future of our society.

Preventive Detention: A Shield or A Sword?
There is a consensus among educated Australians that Preventive Detention is inimical to the democratic evolution of our country. Many are those who argue that given the standards of our time preventive detention is an unnecessary evil.

What's the Difference Between CHINA and AUSTRALIA?
If John Howard's terror law comes into effect, what is the difference between China, and Australia? No rifle executions? I think it is time to approach the Governor General, to dissolve Parliament on the basis that the present Government is attempting to achieve Dictatorial Powers.

Cracks in terror solidarity
In remarks that are at odds with the Premier, Morris Iemma's determined support for the legislation, Mr Debus said yesterday: "I think I share the concern about the legislation with plenty of other people. I don't query that we need to have very tough responses to the threat of terrorism [actually though, the community do query it because the actual threat of terrorism is coming from the Government] and I don't query that the premiers have signed off on a framework last month.

Australian Prime Meanster 'tells' States?
Prime meanster john hoWARd's original pact with the states seems to have fallen into disarray because his new anti-liberty laws breach human rights obligations and the commonwealth constitution.

Anti-Terrorism Bill details draconian police-state plans
First and foremost, the legislation provides for extensive detention without charge or trial, on the flimsiest of pretexts. With no notice or legal hearing, any person can be thrown into secret "preventative detention" or placed, by a "control order," in isolation under house arrest.

Shoot to kill on the belief of reasonable grounds is a problem
Provisions in relation to use of force in s105.23 raise serious concerns. In particular subsection 105.23(2) specifically contemplates the use of lethal force against a detainee where an AFP member believes on reasonable grounds that this is necessary to protect life or to prevent serious injury to another person.

ASIO laws: Don't be silenced
The secrecy surrounding the proposed national anti-``terror'' legislation stands in stark contrast to previous ASIO and "anti-terror'' laws that have been subject to scrutiny by parliamentary committees and public hearings.

Brisbane Peace Convergence calls on Beattie to reject terror legislation changes The Brisbane Peace Convergence (BPC) are calling on Premier Peter Beattie to reject the Federal governments proposed amendments to anti-terror laws. How's this for sedition?

Sydney Morning Herald Poll flawed
Sydney Morning Herald: "According to the latest Herald Poll, about three-quarters of voters think it is OK to lock up suspected terrorists [scapegoats for the Coalition of the Killings resource wars in the Middle East] without charge, put them under house arrest or shackle them with tracking devices."

The Howard Government wants to give police executing preventative detention orders the power to shoot to kill. This is shoot to kill madness.

New anti-terror laws and the Muslim community
On 8 September the Prime Minister introduced a 12-point plan outlining new anti-terror laws [draconian laws to bolster support for John Howard's resource wars in the Middle East] in a press release. Two weeks later he went to the Council of Australian Governments meeting with the proposals. They approved the measures by and large.

AUSTRALIA: federal labor leader kim sleazley has predicted the federal dictatorship will fail in its push for a shoot-to-kill policy to be included in its counter-terrorism laws.

Sedition Laws Target Peaceful Civil Disobedience

Australia: The Opposition says the inquiry effectively gives senators just one day to examine the bills. Labor's homeland security spokesman, Arch Bevis, says the inquiry will be unable to scrutinise whether the legislation provides a balance between security and civil rights.

Australia: Draconian laws draw rights watchdog's ire
Human Rights Watch has condemned Australia's proposed anti-terrorism laws as a "shocking departure" from its historical championing of the rights of the individual.

Dissent Isn't Taken Lightly Down Under

As a nonviolent activist working to end the war in Iraq and the corporate war profiteering that comes with it, September 2005 has been the most surreal time of my life and I definitely feel like I got mugged by Australian Attorney General Phillip Ruddock and the Australian government.

Australia: Rattling the cage
Recently, the federal government announced a controversial new 'counter-terrorism' package. Civil libertarians were quick to raise the spectre of a police state . Yet Muslim groups argued that the new security regime is already having an impact on the democratic freedoms and everyday safety of their communities.

Stop the war on civil liberties!
Prime Minister John Howard is using the "war on terror" to promote widespread fear about "terrorists" and "terrorism" in Australia. This is despite the fact that the biggest act of terror being committed today is being carried out by foreign troops, including Australia's, in occupied Iraq.

Spots and Stripes
It is well known that John Howard, infamous lackey and liar, is devoid of anything that could be remotely regarded as masculine or manly; the draconian measures he has implemented to 'secure' Australia against the terrorist bogeyman are astounding.

They know where you live
Twenty-four hours after the country's leaders agreed to draconian counter-terrorism laws this week, the Attorney-General, Philip Ruddock, was playing down media claims that ASIO believed there were 800 would-be suicide bombers living in Australia.

When Terrorism Outlaws Democracy
On September 27, 2005, Australian democracy surrendered to terrorism. On that day, a coalition of willing federal and state leaders agreed to anti-terrorism legislation that will enable police persecution of the Muslim community and threaten dissidents with imprisonment. In a country without a Bill of Rights, the prospect of more draconian Terror Laws delivers ultimate control through fear. Australia, with its history of penal colonies, racism and detention centers, is now set to become a police state.

Evans: moderate threat
Evans doubts reports that 800 potential terrorists are living in Australia.

No! Your Rights Australia
You have the right to not remain silent.

800 people deemed a potential security risk?
As reported in the Australian today, ASIO has apparently identified up to 800 people deemed a potential security risk. Ruddock says the draconian COAG measures "deal with people who pose a risk to the safety and security of the Australian community." Hmmm, like detained and deported US peace activist Scott Parkin perhaps? What is this broad definition of a "Terrorist"?

Democrat Will Oppose Anti-Terrorism Laws

Mein Kampf by John Howard
Months before Bali Au warships were seen invading Iraqi territorial waters in deliberate provocations under American protection. Innocent witch verballed by federal fascists!
Shame on the federal fascists. The wicked old witch is dead! A Melbourne Magistrates Court has heard that a 31-year-old innocent Victorian man was facing terrorism charges?

Innocent Victorian man held in custody for Xmas?!
Lawyers have argued the case against Mr Thomas was weak and based on a statement he made in Pakistan without a lawyer present and therefore unlawful.

Community seeks more power to interrogate ASIO suspects
Greens Senator Bob Brown does not think increased police powers are necessary. "We have enormous powers for surveillance, apprehension or punishment of people who are engaged in or intending to engage in or thinking about being engaged in terrorist acts in this country," he said.

Greens warn of 'politicised' terror trials
AUSTRALIA/CUBA?: The Australian Greens say they are concerned that new anti-terrorism laws being debated in the Senate allow for the "political black-banning" of defence lawyers at terrorism trials.

AFP: The unlikely CRIMINAL
It was born of a bombing and it made its name after a far more devastating act of terrorism. But for most of the 25 years in between, little was known about the Australian Federal Police force or the work it did.

Hicks, Habib denied a fair go: Amnesty
She says governments around the world are attacking human rights in the name of security. "Many of these laws were rushed through in a matter of weeks, undermining the ability of parliaments and civil society to scrutinise the proposals. Yet most of them go to the heart of such fundamental principles of the right to fair trial and the right not to be arbitrarily detained," she said.

There is no justification for torture
In the weeks since the abuses at Abu Ghraib prison were revealed, evidence continues to seep out of similar mistreatment of prisoners in other US military detention centers in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay.

Howard rejects spy agency overhaul
Prime Minister John Howard has played down the need for a major overhaul of Australia's spy agencies as a result of an inquiry by former intelligence officer Phillip Flood.

Mamdouh Habib: Taunted and Tortured!
Four Corners [Walls]: Terrorist - or Taunted by the Australian Defence Force who sacked him as a cleaning contractor? Who is Mamdouh Habib? And why was he harassed by the Australian Federal Police? Then tagged and labelled as a spy? Why was he vilified by the community? When he fled to Pakistan how did he end up being tortured in Egypt? And how did he end up at Guantanamo prison camp reserved for the men America calls "the worst of the worst.

Labor to back new draconian scapegoat laws?
The [alleged], federal opposition will support changes to the nation's terrorism, [? draconian scapegoat], laws, which the Government is expected to introduce to Parliament today.

Scapegoat bail laws pass NSW Parliament

The New South Wales Government has been accused of "ramming" through a bill designed to make it much tougher for people to get bail if they are accused of terrorism-related offences, [scapegoats for the Coalition of the Killing's resource war's in the Middle East.]

Moroney moves to appeal Khazal bail decision
The federal government created the draconian laws, based on their resource war's in the Middle East and numerous, call to arms, false flag operations around the world. Then the government fear-mongered the general public about it, by using their media power, and then the federal government came up with their own solutions, about how to fix the problems, they themselves have created, for their own reasons. Now we have reduced, oversight, standards at law and reduced rules of evidence etc. Now Moroney wants to take away bail which proves the obvious.

New laws to stop bail for scapegoats
The New South Wales Attorney-General has rushed new laws into State Parliament to make it difficult for people charged with terrorism offences, [scapegoats for the Coalition of the Killing's resource war's in the Middle East], to get bail.

What's the Rush? Non Parole period for scapegoats
[Problem, Reaction, Solution. Firstly, the ASIO provocateur creates the problem, (approaches Jack Roche and asks...Can you take pictures of the Israel Embassy?) then (Roach thinks he's found a friend that also hates Israel) and then (ASIO set him up as the patsy), and then the Government gets a response from the corporate media and the general public about what to do about it. Then Ruddock finds the solution.]

Khazal: A stitch in time saves nine?

Channel Nine judge finds Saleh Jamal Guilty?
Why would a man carry out a shooting attack on a police station in Sydney's south-western suburbs? Because police wouldn't give him a licence? Because police owed him money?

The taskforce is investigating French man Willie Brigitte, who was tipped back home for a visa breach. Allegedly the Un-Australian Newspaper claimed he also attended training camps before his six-month stay in Sydney. Police have not alleged Mr Ul-Haque knew Brigitte. The Un-Australian just mentioned it because they are 'you guessed it' up John Howard's butt and they like the USA want 'you guessed it' our Federal Government. Well Yankee go home!

Protest Against the Incarceration of Izhar Ul Haque
Izhar is one of the new victims of Australia's draconian civil liberties deprivation laws. He has been accused of visiting a group that was not proscribed until ten months after Izhar's alleged visit.

Terror force has chip on its shoulder?
Ron Woodham the prisons bum boy commissioner creates the problem (Noble Cause Corruption for Bob Carr) by framing a prisoner, then seeks a reaction from the community for the false flag operation, then finds the solution that the government wanted to implement in the first place.

The Federal Government has rejected as unfounded, claims that it is making a political scapegoat out of a Sydney man arrested on terrorism charges. [Scapegoat for the Coalition of the Killing's resource war's in the Middle East.]

Counter-terrorism-fear-mongering, propaganda exercise to test several states For the first time, Australia is about to test its ability to respond to terrorism threats and acts, [fear-mongering, propaganda for the Coalition of the Killing's resource wars in the Middle East], in several states simultaneously.

HoWARd, where's your head at?
Australians is living on the edge! Seems each time the bombs go off overseas for the Coalition of the Killing's resource war's in the Middle East Australians are living on the edge.

Australia: National Insecurity Anthem
Australians all let us give voice. For we are free no more. We've lost the right to liberty. In Uncle Howard's war. From high school kids. To journalists. You'll be in custody. If someone you know, give ASIO. A little insecurity.

Howard gov't and media talks up terror
First it was the Lucas Height nuclear reactor Willie Brigitte was alleged to have been planing to blow up. ASIO alleged to have found some type of map as evidence late last year.

A plot to attack the Lucas Heights Nuclear Reactor and blow up the Daily Telegraph Newspaper building is alleged to have been the reason Willie Brigitte was deported back to France. Believe it or not?

Man on first terror charge not first alleged terrorist
Zak Mallah of Condell Park was arrested overnight when federal and NSW police slipped on a banana skin into a western Sydney reserve and then raided his home.

Big Bang Theory, ASIO
The most significant threat to Australia is Prime Minister John Howard. Howard has lied to the Australian people constantly. Slaughtered the international rule of law by preventive strikes on Iraq, rigorously changed laws to deter asylum seekers, locked up children of asylum seekers, and undermined the political process by jailing Pauline Hanson, political prisoner of the year.

Australian Corruption: Absence in Absentia

Daily Telegraph: Wife had a key role in war
[Allegedly], Mr Willie Brigitte's wife was being trained by the army to fight the Resource Wars, in the Middle East and the War on Liberty here at home.

ASIO: No responsibility!

2nd Renaissance -10 The War on Witches [150]
In 1484, Pope Innocent VIII issued a Papal Bull that became the rationale for establishing the Inquisition in Germany. The following excerpt from the Bull sets out the official view of the danger of witches to the community. The Bull and this this passage provided the sole excuse for the torture and cruel executions that were, ultimately, to be the fate of up to fifty percent of the population of some villages.

Obituary: Van Tuong Nguyen

NGUYEN. - Tuong Van. You are at peace. We tried our best to save you. Condolencesto Kim and Khoa. -From The Australian Coalition Against Death Penalty, Singaporean Human Rights Lawyer M. Ravi.Justice Action, NSW Community News Network.

Australian Government couldn't possibly save Nguyen Van

Australian Government did not anticipate the reaction against Singapore hanging - a problem for Howard he had to impugne the rise of a moral movement.

Howard government had no intention to save the life of hapless Australian held in Singapore Nguyen Van for stupidly acting as drug mule. It appears the situation caused a public relations problem for Howard and his cabinet and behind the scene string pullers, it shifted out of control with increasing public interest in commendable moral basis to save this man. It is very clear the Australian government does not value life. Anyone that was taken in by public relations attempts by Howard and Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer was duped.

The legislation past few years of Howard and so called main opposition party both push anti liberty pathway - shows their real character is abuse of Australians, evidence the in your face detention camps, ignoring voice of protests for military in Iraq, affairs of refugee vessels the Tampa affair show us the value for life is minimal. The present course is to remove your rights with Hitler like power of anti-terrorism laws that trample civil rights should be sufficient to show you Howard's and complicit Beazley's hand in the dangerous direction Australia is going. The Howard government attacks ordinary Australian in the workplace with IR laws aimed to destroy your wages and conditions.

The disclosure of Singapore lawyer M. Ravi, a brave lawyer leads a campaign in ordered Singapore against the death penalty. A country that it seems almost leads the world in the per capita executions - heard on ABC radio Late Night Live. Ravi voiced amazement at the Australian government seeking legal opinion of Cambridge lawyer that any appeal by Australia with the International Criminal Court of Justice is pointless to attempt to help to save the life of Nguyen Van. Ravi's disclosure confirms Australian government deliberately had worked with the Singapore government to frame a lost position so interpretion such path would be fruitless effort to save Nguyen Van's life.

The sorry evidence is Howard government and the similar Labor party shares an agenda of wrongdoing. If death sentence seen weakened by public opinion to overturn or prevent the death mandated by government would set back the radical plan of both compromised political parties to change this country. Howard wants to be seen as caring leader whilst compromising life of his own people. Make no mistake the Australian government seeks to ignore the voice of the electorate whilst appearing to do its best for you.

This action equates to the worst of crime where representative government misleads what harm it actually lies about to wound and risk the life of its own citizens. David Hicks languishing under US control for unproven crimes is another fearful example of the real offensive face of Australian politics. The deliberate compromise to reveal the Bali drug nine to the brunt of unjust Indonesian justice system shows you malice and contempt the Australian government has toward the population. Being aware of campaign and insanity in Canberra allows you to interpret assertions by Howard et al for what lies and danger they are to this nation.

Nguyen murdered in Singapore
Khoa Nguyen his twin waited outside Changi prison as his brother is murdered. The execution murder in Singapore of Australian drug trafficker Van Nguyen has been confirmed. In a break from convention, Singapore's Government has issued a statement formally confirming the 25-year-old was hanged this morning.

Human rights activists are leaving candles at the front gate of Singapore's Changi Prison, as the execution of Australian man Van Nguyen draws nearer. They say they hope his death will not be in vain.

The Australian Editorial: Against executions
There is no explanation, no justification, that can excuse any nation from killing an individual who has broken the law. There never has been and there never will be.

US passes 1000 executions in 30 years
December 3, 2005: Double murderer Kenneth Lee Boyd has became the 1,000th prisoner executed in the United States since 1976. Another man was put to death on Friday for the 1994 murder of a store clerk, becoming the 1,001st person executed in the United States since capital punishment was reinstated 28 years ago. The somber moment drew a sizeable crowd to Central Prison in Raleigh, N.C., to protest capital punishment...

Send a letter to Nguyen Tuong Van
I am writing to you in this eleventh hour in the hope that you will intervene to save the life of Australian citizen Nguyen Tuong Van. As Prime Minister of Australia you are in a position of power to influence the Singapore Government to stay his execution.

Please show clemency
As you read this email 25-year old Melbourne man Van Tuong Nguyen is sitting in a jail cell in Singapore awaiting execution for drug trafficking.

Singapore: Nguyen Tuong Van, 25, an Australian citizen of Vietnamese origin will be hanged within two weeks in Singapore after various pleas for clemency failed.

Exporting the death penalty - Bali 9
...and had observers present during one of the drug raids by Indonesian police claim they have - "ended co-operation with Indonesian police investigating the Bali Nine because they could face the firing squad if convicted."

Mr Howard has warned Japan that it faces global condemnation if it kills whales. Mr Howard is often quoted as saying he cannot and he would not interfere in the business and laws of sovereign states. Whaling is a part of the Japanese culture. The death penalty is also a part of many countries culture.

During 2004, at least 3,797 people were executed in 25 countries. At least 7,395 people were sentenced to death in 64 countries. These figures are only reported cases - the true figures were certainly much higher - many countries continue to execute people in secret.

WHY IS THE HOWARD GOVERNMENT PLAYING 'DEATH' WITH AUSTRALIANS: There has been much controversy recently on whether the Australian Federal Police should have tipped-off the Indonesians over the arrest of the Bali Nine. Due to the fact that Indonesia executes convicted drug-traffickers, ACADP believes that any evidence collected by AFP should have been withheld from Indonesian authorities until they have a written guarantee not to pursue the death penalty for the Bali Nine.

Death penalty-free zone in Europe and Central Asia
A coalition of non-governmental organizations is calling for a death penalty-free zone in Europe and Central Asia.

For death row inmates in Indonesia, execution usually comes on a deserted beach or remote jungle at the hands of a paramilitary firing squad. And, it rarely comes fast.

The Australian Coalition Against Death Penalty (ACADP) is (again) calling on U.S. President George W. Bush, to join the civilised world and destroy all chemicals of mass destruction, for the dignity and respect of every human life.

The difference between life and death can rest on the whim of a president or the ability of a lawyer. Whether or not the death penalty can be justified is very much up for grabs.
