There has been much controversy recently on whether the Australian Federal Police should have tipped-off the Indonesians over the arrest of the Bali Nine. Due to the fact that Indonesia executes convicted drug-traffickers, ACADP believes that any evidence collected by AFP should have been withheld from Indonesian authorities until they have a written guarantee not to pursue the death penalty for the Bali Nine.
The nine young Australians, arrested in Indonesia with the help of the AFP, now face death by firing squad if convicted of drug-trafficking. According to media reports, the AFP worked closely with Indonesian police to secure the arrests of the Bali Nine. In this bizarre situation, the AFP for some unknown reason, shared collected incriminating evidence with Indonesian authorities, being fully aware that these nine young people will most likely face the firing squad if convicted.
Contrary to John Howard's assertion that, "he respects the laws of sovereign states" the death penalty law is the business of every human being on this planet. The death penalty law is a serious concern for all worldwide human rights groups and all civilised world leaders who value and respect the most fundamental human right - the right to life. The death penalty law should never be respected but fought against - vigorously.
While nations should respect each other's sovereignty there are certain universal sovereignties that also need respecting by every nation - the ultimate 'sovereignty' of human life.
It seems, however, that respect of sovereignty is something that is very selective these days. We are asked to respect the sovereignty of another country's laws when it is politically favourable to do so, as in the case of both Schapelle Corby and the Bali Nine. But John Howard is more than happy on other occasions to ignore all notions of respect of sovereignty when other political situations arise where it is expedient to so - such as the war in Iraq, which has killed hundreds of men, women and innocent children.
John Howard will put political expediency before the life of human beings. He is seen half-hearted to oppose the death penalty for Australians, but supports it for all others.
His comments have surely damaged Australia's reputation internationally as being less than a humane society. At the same time, his comments encourage rogue sovereign states to execute criminals and troublesome individuals, knowing they have the ultimate respect from our prime minister.
Many people overseas, particularly in Europe, do not see Australia in the same light as they have done in the past.
If any of the Bali Nine are eventually executed, Mr Howard will have blood on his hands. Every Australian will have washed their hands in the blood.
Let's not be fooled, anybody who believes that John Howard had nothing to do with the arrest of the Bali Nine is living in la-la land. Federal Police Commissioner Mick Kelty, answers to Prime Minister John Howard. Kelty would have known the consequences of dobbing-in the Bali Nine to the Indonesians and he most definitely would not have done so without running it past Howard first.
The pre-meditated cold-blooded killing of a human being is ethically and morally wrong. Governments do not give or grant us human life and they do not have the God-like powers to take away human life. There is no difference between unlawful killing and political killing - in the end both achieve the same thing - death.

Here come de Judge - Time to Leave [266]
There have always been examples of rulings and interpretations that have supported the saying "The law is an ass". This is increasingly the case, because even the best intentioned judges are now facing an avalanche of new technologies and social change. But, it is no good making excuses for the judiciary and continuing to accept their strange interpretations. We must recognise that not only judges but the whole legal system will struggle more and more. In the end the whole system will become a farce. This is the way empires end.
