Nguyen murdered in Singapore

Khoa Nguyen his twin waited outside Changi prison as his brother is murdered.

The execution murder in Singapore of Australian drug trafficker Van Nguyen has been confirmed.

In a break from convention, Singapore's Government has issued a statement formally confirming the 25-year-old was hanged this morning.

"The sentence was carried out this morning at Changi Prison," the Ministry of Home Affairs statement said.

The 25-year-old from Melbourne was sentenced to death after being convicted of trying to smuggle nearly 400 grams of heroin through Changi Airport.

As daybreak approached, Nguyen's brother, Khoa, arrived at Changi Prison with a number of his friends.

He left after spending more than an hour in the visitors' centre during the time the execution was scheduled.

Lawyer Julian McMahon told reporters they wanted to be at the wall of the jail at the scheduled time for the execution.

Mr McMahon says Nguyen's mother was with friends and relatives at a nearby church at the scheduled time of the hanging.

He said the Australian High Commission had agreed to formally identify Nguyen's body after the hanging.

Mr McMahon says funeral arrangements have been made and it is expected the family will fly out to Australia tomorrow.

Mr McMahon spoke to reporters about the last moments between Nguyen and his mother.

"Well I actually wasn't in the room when that happened but there was a grill and they were able to hold each other's hands and Kim was able to, at least for some time, I'm not sure how long, was able to touch Van on the face," he said.

Church services

Masses have been held in cities around the country to mark the execution.

In Melbourne, the bell tolled 25 times at St Ignatius Catholic Church in Richmond - once for each year of Nguyen's life.

Members of Victoria's Criminal Bar Association gathered outside the County Court in Melbourne to observe a minute's silence for Nguyen.

Stephen Shirrefs, the vice-chairman of the association, says they support the fight against the mandatory death penalty.

"We are here to demonstrate our opposition to capital punishment, as a mark of respect to the family of Van Nguyen and as a mark of solidarity for two of our members who in the fine tradition of the Victorian Bar have acted pro bono and for the last three years fought to save the life of Van Nguyen," he said.

At Martin Place in Sydney, a Vietnamese gong also sounded 25 times.

A crowd gathered and maintained a silent vigil.

Churchgoers in Brisbane have also prayed for Nguyen and expressed hopes the events of today are not taken for granted.

Fr Peter Dillon led the congregation at St Stephen's Cathedral in a prayer calling for an end to executions.

Fr Dillon says he fears today's execution will have little impact on the drug trade.

"I sadly think, unfortunately, and this is the insidiousness of the drug culture, I think it's just another dead body for the drug world. And there's thousands of them everyday, so I don't think they're going to be moved by all this," he said.

Human rights activists are leaving candles at the front gate of Singapore's Changi Prison, as the execution of Australian man Van Nguyen draws nearer. They say they hope his death will not be in vain.

WHY IS THE HOWARD GOVERNMENT PLAYING 'DEATH' WITH AUSTRALIANS:

There has been much controversy recently on whether the Australian Federal Police should have tipped-off the Indonesians over the arrest of the Bali Nine. Due to the fact that Indonesia executes convicted drug-traffickers, ACADP believes that any evidence collected by AFP should have been withheld from Indonesian authorities until they have a written guarantee not to pursue the death penalty for the Bali Nine.

The nine young Australians, arrested in Indonesia with the help of the AFP, now face death by firing squad if convicted of drug-trafficking. According to media reports, the AFP worked closely with Indonesian police to secure the arrests of the Bali Nine. In this bizarre situation, the AFP for some unknown reason, shared collected incriminating evidence with Indonesian authorities, being fully aware that these nine young people will most likely face the firing squad if convicted.

Contrary to John Howard's assertion that, "he respects the laws of sovereign states" the death penalty law is the business of every human being on this planet. The death penalty law is a serious concern for all worldwide human rights groups and all civilised world leaders who value and respect the most fundamental human right - the right to life. The death penalty law should never be respected but fought against - vigorously.

While nations should respect each other's sovereignty there are certain universal sovereignties that also need respecting by every nation - the ultimate 'sovereignty' of human life.

It seems, however, that respect of sovereignty is something that is very selective these days. We are asked to respect the sovereignty of another country's laws when it is politically favourable to do so, as in the case of both Schapelle Corby and the Bali Nine. But John Howard is more than happy on other occasions to ignore all notions of respect of sovereignty when other political situations arise where it is expedient to so - such as the war in Iraq, which has killed hundreds of men, women and innocent children.

John Howard will put political expediency before the life of human beings. He is seen half-hearted to oppose the death penalty for Australians, but supports it for all others.

His comments have surely damaged Australia's reputation internationally as being less than a humane society. At the same time, his comments encourage rogue sovereign states to execute criminals and troublesome individuals, knowing they have the ultimate respect from our prime minister.

Many people overseas, particularly in Europe, do not see Australia in the same light as they have done in the past.

If any of the Bali Nine are eventually executed, Mr Howard will have blood on his hands. Every Australian will have washed their hands in the blood.

Let's not be fooled, anybody who believes that John Howard had nothing to do with the arrest of the Bali Nine is living in la-la land. Federal Police Commissioner Mick Kelty, answers to Prime Minister John Howard. Kelty would have known the consequences of dobbing-in the Bali Nine to the Indonesians and he most definitely would not have done so without running it past Howard first.

The pre-meditated cold-blooded killing of a human being is ethically and morally wrong. Governments do not give or grant us human life and they do not have the God-like powers to take away human life. There is no difference between unlawful killing and political killing - in the end both achieve the same thing - death.

WE WANT DENNIS FERGUSON

Mob Mentality?

No one here is afraid of Dennis Ferguson. We and our children welcome him...

Governments have been trying to get rid of their problems by making people into outcasts for over 200 years. Transportation, execution and imprisonment didn't work and we should know that by now.

The image of Dennis running from the fearful town of Murgon shows the failure of our criminal justice system.

Dennis has paid his penalty as decided by the courts. He is legally entitled to move on with his life and resettle into a happy accepting community, with a home and income like the rest of us. It is in our interest that he does so as soon as possible.

Instead the justice system has isolated him for 14 years costing well over a million of our dollars, and created a climate of fear that he will attack our most vulnerable children. It hasn't prepared him for safe resettlement, and has given him no chance of survival. Several communities are understandably in uproar due to his proximity.

The solution is not difficult. The Dennis Fergusons are all around us, doing this and other offensive acts. Most sex offending happens in the family. We can't exclude the problem as they are community problems.

Mentoring and restorative justice in the community is the only way forward. And there is a million dollars for every Dennis to spend on it.

We speak for the prisoner community and have been accepting people from the courts on community service orders for over twenty years . We look after our own community. Dennis is welcome.

War criminal Howard high-jacks HRCA to 'legitimise killing'

The Human Rights Council of Australia (HRCA) says it fears Prime Minister John Howard's comments in support of the execution of [CIA operative] Osama bin Laden show his eagerness to overturn three decades of national opposition to the death penalty.

[It also shows this article as a propaganda instrument and war criminal John Howard's complicity to commit criminal acts, because at all material times Osama bin Laden works for the CIA and subsequently George W Bush and therefore, the Coalition of the Killing.]

War criminal, Howard has told media outlets if Osama bin Laden is eventually caught by United States forces, everyone would welcome his execution. [But he knows that won't happen because where has he bin ? Laden works undercover for the Coalition of the Killing.]

The HRCA says the Prime Minister has allowed himself to be caught up in populist electoral activity at the cost of longstanding Australian policy and Australia's long term commitment to human rights.

[The HRCA is just being used by the federal government to spew out this propaganda. True, Howard's double standards with the death penalty is a problem but making out Osama bin Laden is the enemy John Howard hates is all bullshit, because bin Laden works for the Coaltion of the Killing.]

HRCA national spokesman Chris Sidoti says Australia can not reduce itself to the level of the monsters who inflict these kinds of horrors.

[Even though the Australian federal government was complicit in the false flag, call to arms, Bali bombings, and they even knew about the 911 reichstag in the USA. The people would have thought that these issues meant that the Howard federal government is morally bankrupt, evil and greedy.]

Sidoti: "If we are to maintain our own integrity as a nation, as a people, we have to be better than those we condemn," Mr Sidoti said.

"And yet by resorting ourselves to killing the killers, we are in fact legitimising killing, we are sending the message that says in certain circumstances killing is okay.

"So we are really reducing ourselves to the level of those who have inflicted such outrageous damage upon people," he said.

[Sidoti's arm of goverment is just being used here. What he says is true but that is only the half of it. The fact that the federal government war criminals are at large is the biggest problem we face.]

Mr Sidoti says Mr Howard is dodging the real questions and seeking to avoid any form of public accountability for what is already taking place.

"He has indicated that he considers the war even without United Nations sanctions justifiable, if that's the case he should be releasing the international law advice that the government has received, and let's get the legal authorities out there in the open and properly discuss the lawfulness or otherwise the action that he is proposing," Mr Sidoti said.

Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty

Texas State Death Penalty Abolition Coordinator, Amnesty International USA.

Texas has already liquidated 8 human beings thus far this year in the death chamber in Huntsville, and another 9 more face a similar fate before April 23, including 3 more this month.

Texas has now carried out 297 of the 830 executions in the USA since the death penalty was re-legalized in 1976.

By The Executioner 10 March 03

Ed: However, the problem with this article is it appears to be in relation to objections to the 'death penalty' [?] Plausible if it were true - however, this article is just propaganda - instigated by the Howard government - who high-jacked The Human Rights Council of Australia - and used that agency to give legitimacy to Osma bin Laden as an enemy of the Coalition of the Killing.

When in fact, at all material times bin Laden works for the Coalition of the Killing.

That illegal and degrading use of a 'human rights issue' and a 'federal government agency' by war criminal John HoWARd, is a crime within itself.

Furthermore, during the course of the Howard government dictatorship, Howard used federal government arms (agencies) including his ABC, not for and on behalf of the Australian people but for his greedy and evil self-serving purposes.
