Greens For Freedom of Political Prisoners

A Western Australian Federal politician says he makes no apologies for his actions in preventing two Greens Senators from approaching [war criminal], US President George W Bush in Parliament yesterday.

Nevertheless there should be an assault charge laid against the person who pulled Kerry Nettle's coat and almost ripped it off her back. This person used violence to drag her away.

Senators Bob Brown and Kerry Nettle were banned from Parliament for 24 hours after speaking out during [war criminal], Bush's speech yesterday.

The Greens politicians refused to be ejected and attempted to deliver a letter and photograph to the president. But Kerry was literally dragged away and that behaviour in Parliament was worrying.

This person used violence to get his way in the Parliament and he should be banned from Parliament house and charged for assault. It was unscheduled, it was quite scary, given the high level of parliamentary standards and given the irrational behaviour dragging Kerry Nettles Coat and seemed to make no apology for what he did with the whole world watching. What a disgrace.

Senator Lightfoot admits he swore at the Green Senators and provoked them by his aggressive behaviour.

The Greens politicians tried to deliver a letter and photograph to the President, but Senators Ross Lightfoot and Nigel Scullion stopped them. When Senator Nettle tried to walk over to the President Senator Lightfoot told her that she should go and go quickly. If you come from sewer you know what he is talking about.

Senator Brown actions were well within reason.

"I recognise there are limits to this but it is reasonable as happens in every other debate in the Parliament, if there is something important to be said, to put it," Senator Brown said. Otherwise the opportunity in that free-flowing debate in our chamber of democracy in this great and free country of ours gets put aside."

Senator's Brown and Nettle have since been expelled from the Parliament for 24 hours.
