Police 'had role in' Bali blasts

INDONESIAN [politicians,] police or military officers may have played a role in the 2002 Bali bombing, the country's former president, Abdurrahman Wahid has said.

In an interview with SBS's Dateline program, on the third anniversary of the [CIA false flag] bombing that killed 202 people, Mr Wahid says he has grave concerns about links between Indonesian authorities and terrorist groups. [CIA - Coalition of the Killing - NATO.]

While he believed terrorists were involved in planting one of the Kuta night club bombs, the second, which destroyed Bali's SariClub, had been organised by authorities.

Asked who he thought planted the second bomb, Mr Wahid said: "Maybe the police ... or the armed forces."

"The orders to do this or that came from within our armed forces, not from the fundamentalist people," he says.

The program also claims a key figure behind the formation of terror group Jemaah Islamiah was an Indonesian spy.

Former terrorist Umar Abduh, who is now a researcher and writer, told Dateline Indonesian authorities had a hand in many terror groups. [Or were complicit in State Terror for whoever but not for a song. How about and Australian grant of say $48 Million]

The threat from terror groups and failed states means Australia needs a high-tech, rapid deployment defence force, the defence minister says.

"There is not a single Islamic group either in the movement or the political groups that is not controlled by (Indonesian) intelligence," he said.

He says Hasbi was a secret agent for Indonesia's military intelligence while at the same time a key player in creating JI.

Documents cited by SBS showed the Indonesian chief of military intelligence in 1990 authorised Hasbi to undertake a "special job".

A 1995 internal memo from the military intelligence headquarters in Jakarta included a request to use "Brother Fauzi Hasbi" to spy on Acehnese separatists in Indonesia, Malaysia and Sweden.

And a 2002 document assigned Hasbi the job of special agent for BIN, the Indonesian national intelligence agency.

Security analyst John Mempi told SBS that Hasbi, who was also known as Abu Jihad, had played a key role in JI in its early years.

"The first Jemaah Islamiah congress in Bogor was facilitated by Abu Jihad, after Abu Bakar Bashir returned from Malaysia," Mr Mempi said.

"We can see that Abu Jihad played an important role. He was later found to be an intelligence agent. So an intelligence agent has been facilitating the radical Islamic movement."

Hasbi was disembowelled in a mysterious murder in 2003 after he was exposed as a military agent and his son Lamkaruna Putra died in a plane crash last month.

Another convicted terrorist, Timsar Zubil, who set off three bombs in Sumatra in 1978, told the program intelligence agents had given his group a provocative name - Komando Jihad - and encouraged members to commit illegal acts.

"We may have deliberately been allowed to grow," he said.

Abduh also told the program his terrorist organisation, the Imron Movement, was incited to a range of violent action in the 1980s when the Indonesian military told the group that the assassination of several Muslim clerics was imminent.

Another [alleged] terrorism expert, George Aditjondro, said a bombing in May this year that killed 23 people in the Christian village of Tentena, in central Sulawesi, had been organised by senior military and police officers.

"This is a strategy of depopulating an area and when an area has been depopulated - both becoming refugees or becoming paramilitary fighters - then that is the time when they can invest their money in major resource exploitation there," he said.

To ensure no future government can erode basic human rights

One of Australia's top barristers has called for the introduction of a bill of rights, to ensure no future government can erode basic human rights.

Lex Lasry, QC, gave last night's key note address at the University of Western Australia's annual Day of Ideas.

He told delegates while Australia has a good human rights record [?], he is concerned the Government is compromising that in its fight against terrorism. [Scapegoats for resource wars in the Middle East.]

But I don't know where he gets that from at the moment Australia's Human Rights record is appalling just ask any Refugee! Anyway I do understand pragmatism so I won't knock him any further because he wants to compromise with the government about their human rights record.

He says renewed debate is needed about the introduction of a bill of rights.

"I think the Government is using fear to erode people's rights and it's only perhaps in more recent times that people have started to see that it's important," he said.

"That these rights have to be protected in a way which can't be changed at the whim of government.

"I think the current Federal Government wouldn't be terribly sympathetic to that argument, but it may remain to be seen whether they are or not."

He says it is an issue that can no longer be ignored.

"The community's being urged to regard themselves as living in different times," he said.

"And every time you hear a politician say 'We're living in different times', the concern is that that's really code for 'You can't expect to have the same liberties now that you had in the past'."

"The problem with that is that it assumes that taking away people's liberties is going to prevent terrorism, and I obviously take issue with that logic."

More like a Bill of Right Wingers

Now would be the worst possible time to introduce a Bill of Rights in Australia. The same authorities who are currently trampling all over our rights in the name of the Wars on Terror, Drugs, Crime, Mental Illness, Non-Conformism, etc would hijack the process and simply legitimise and entrench their own agendas.

Good Bills of Rights don't come about when oppressive authorities hold the whip hand. They flourish in the brief periods following social upheavals *against* those authorities, while the memories of their abuses and the price paid to end them are still fresh and the new authorities have not yet entrenched their power against those who elevated them to power.

After we've gotten rid of the likes of John Howard, Philip Ruddock, Kim Beasley and, yes, Lex Lasry QC - whether it be through upwelling of disgust, collapse of the social order or bloody revolution - *then* is the time to start talking about drafting a Bill of Rights.

What about a bill of rights?

By tonight, the NSW parliament will have passed new laws which allow police, on the say so of the police minister, to break-in to your house and search it, to strip search you, to search your vehicle, and to insist that you answer questions. The Forbes conference officially gets underway today following an opening dinner where our beloved War Prime Minister John Howard spoke to the 360 world business leaders attending.

What's this got to do with the new Terror Laws?

Ruddock's Laws attempt to reduce the risk of terrorism in Australia but could be "inherently dangerous" and open to misuse.

For example, by simply voicing support for the Iraqi insurgence are we breaking the law? Should we perhaps be defining the very meaning of what "Terrorism" is? For breaking fences are we breaking Ruddock's Laws? Are our views now subjected to stringent government scrutiny? Just what is "condoning" terrorism? Can't the Invasion of Iraq be construed as an act of Terrorism?

The Law Council of Australia urged the Government to refrain from introducing "possibly draconian" laws without full public consultation.

A new Age Poll reveals growing public anxiety about terrorism in Australia, with more than two-thirds of people now believing an attack on home soil is likely within two years.

Law Council president John North, says: "Laws of this type in a robust democracy are inherently dangerous and open to misuse by those with ulterior motives," Mr North said.

For such laws to be introduced, surely there should be wider community consultation? The introduction of any laws that seriously restricted freedom of speech and expression should be discussed and debated at length. You'd think!

Attention should also be paid to avoid directing laws at specific sections of Australia's multicultural community - in particular the Muslim community. Especially in light of Bronwyn Bishop's offensive comments about Muslim girls wearing headscarves to school! Should wearing a Cross be against the law?

It makes little sense to accept draconian laws that will become a second threat to Australian freedoms and values.

The Government is now modelling itself on British laws that will significantly widen the range of activities that could be seen as encouraging, glorifying or inciting terrorism.

In the wake of the [false flag] London bombings, the Blair Government wants to create a new offence of "fomenting" terrorism, which will make it criminal to encourage someone to carry out a terrorist act or to condone terrorism anywhere in the world. Yes that's right to CONDONE terrorism. Isn't the Coalition of the [K]illing an act of State Terrorism?

Attorney-General Philip Ruddock says that while freedom of speech was important, it was not a licence for groups to say anything they liked. He said it would be worth the Government looking at ways to make people think twice about what they were saying if that prevented a terrorist attack...[And what if it didn't?]

The new crime of "fomenting terrorism" may include writing or distributing material, including verbally or on the internet, that justified or glorified terrorist violence.

[What about false flag operations? Illegal and degrading wars and crimes against humanity? Rendition and Torture? Human rights abuse? State Terror? Lying and bullshitting? Complicity in all of the above whilst in Government?]

Why should we blind-clone what is being done overseas when Australia has rigid laws in place already?

The government's stance on "terrorism" reeks of fascist intent and makes the nature of dissent a potentially dangerous act.

Furthermore: "It must be remembered that these laws may well attach to all sections of the community - including our media outlets - and it has the possibility of severely curtailing freedom of speech. In times of fear, it is easy for governments to impose ever (more) draconian laws. Australians ... should look to their government not to change laws without a proper forensic reason." Danny Hanley, whose daughters Renae Anderson and Simone Hanley who died with friend Francoise Dahan in the Sari Club inferno may not need to know the real truth about who was behind the bombers because regardless of who was really guilty they've suffered a great loss.

Furthermore we must comfort them at this time.

But every family member of a 'victim' must feel this way. So when you think of the innocent victims in Bali then also think of the innocent victims in Iraq and Afghanistan the very reason for Bali.

Not holding these war criminals accountable for their war crimes against humanity is spitting in the face of every victim.

Not finding out who was behind the Bali bombings is also spitting in the face of every victim. The hoWARd government can be so insensitive because it may be one of the perpetrators, complicit in the fear campaign and that would be a greater insult to all Australians.

We can't believe that Iraq, Afghanistan and Bali won't go away or incidents like them until we take hoWARd and his cronies to the Hague to face up to their war crimes against humanity and until further investigations into who was behind the Bali bombers takes place, so we can't be sure who was behind it but most declare the CIA and John Howard's complicity. We know who had the motive, The Coalition of the Killing!

Australian taxpayers spent their taxes to wage war against the innocent and kill over 100,000 innocent men, women and children in Iraq and Afghanistan, and pre-emptively, 88 more in Bali to strike up a reaction, how can they be so insensitive?

We're fuming, we don't sleep at night this is injustice. It degrades the memory of all the dead, it just brings back more hurt. We will never get over it, people have lost everything.

We are the many family's that have been left to grieve all the time over and over again as someone behind the 20 men responsible for the murders in Bali have never been investigated to find out which government was behind the bombing.

The first of the bombers could be released as early as today after jail sentences were cut by up to seven months and the militia behind them will never be taken to trial unless someone investigates who was giving them material and the instructions.

Abu Bakar Bashir a preacher and teacher who was framed by Indonesia as a favour for the US, UK and Australian governments (the fall guy) and alleged ringleader also had 4.5 months slashed from his jail term and could be released by next May. God love him.

Laughing criminal Amrozi, who is on death row, was excluded from the handout.

Renae Anderson, 30, and Francoise Dahan, 30, were in the doorway of the Sari Club and died instantly when a bomb exploded.

Renae's sister Simone Hanley, 28, survived and was one of the first victims flown back to Australia. But the Caringbah woman died in hospital.

"Anyone who had anything to do with this bombing should not have their sentences reduced," Mr Hanley said.

And anyone behind the Bali bombers should be investigated.

Simon Quayle, a Perth football coach injured in the bombing and who lost seven players in the Sari Club, said: "This is a complete bloody disgrace. It's the most pathetic reason I've heard.

As well as the fact that investigators failed to find out which government was responsible for setting up the explosion timed to get support for the illegal and degrading war on Iraq.

The Coogee Dolphins football club, which lost six players, said the sentence reductions "belittled" the victims' lives.

And the community are outraged that no proper investigation has been undertaken to find out who was behind the bombing really, and that those war criminals won't even take the stand to justify their behaviour?

Adelaide magistrate Brian Deegan, who lost son Joshua, said: "We've already received a life sentence. This is just outrageous. It's an absolute disgrace."

Jodie Wallace, from Sutherland, died alongside friend Charmaine Whitton in the Sari Club. Her brother Chris said yesterday the move was a "sick joke".

"I am disgusted and dumbfounded," he said.

And an even sicker joke if hoWARd and his cronies conspired to let it happen to get support for their illegal and degrading war crimes against humanity.

Karen Cook, whose sister Michelle Dunlop died, said:

"It's not fair, the whole [Indonesian] judicial system has let us down."

As has the whole [United Nations] judicial system has let us down.
