One Nation Party founder Pauline Hanson has revealed she contemplated suicide while serving an 11-week jail term in Brisbane. Miss Hanson told about her time in jail and her future plans.Miss Hanson and One Nation co-founder David Ettridge were released from prison last week, after the Queensland Court of Appeal quashed their convictions for electoral fraud.
She says that hours after her initial conviction, having been taken to prison handcuffed and subjected to a strip search, she felt like her life was over.
She revealed how she seriously considered suicide but said thoughts of her family kept her positive."My children only had me and I think it was very selfish for me to do that but when you actually go through it and you experience it, it just felt like the end of my world," she said.
"I had no regard for my life or my wellbeing," she added. "I was terrible.
"For my kids, here I am always trying to keep their spirits up and I've always tried to be a positive person. I tell the kids, 'you've always got to be positive'.
"It, yes, was probably very, very weak of me at the time to feel that way but that's how I felt."
She has admitted that after spending time in prison she no longer supports mandatory sentencing.Miss Hanson says she looked through prisons when she was a member of Parliament and now sees how superficial that was.
"I'm the first one to admit when I'm wrong," she said.
"I had the attitude that, well, that's prison, the system's found them guilty, so they must be guilty.
"Hey, I've had a system fail me. Right? I've been there."Miss Hanson says
she wants to know why there was a "witch-hunt" against her. She admits she does not know
why the Queensland Department of Public Prosecutions might be politically motivated.As for federal Health Minister, Tony Abbott, who set up a trust fund to pursue One Nation in the courts, she said:
"Heaven help this country is Tony Abbott is ever in control of it. I detest the man."

Prisoners Representatives ExcommunicatedRon Woodham, Commissioner Corrective Services stated "[this Department] does not recognise Justice Action as an advocate on correctional centre issues." He has ordered a ban on all Justice Action material inside the NSW prison system. This resulted from a request for the approval of the latest edition of Framed (the Magazine of Justice Action) to be distributed throughout NSW prisons as has occurred for the past ten years.
