An Outline of the Game of Life

What follows is a greatly simplified model of the purpose of life, as set out in far greater detail, and often with considerable obscurity, in various spiritual teachings from past ages. The Snakes and Ladders metaphor used here is a practical explanation, and is not deeply grounded in research and science (although some such forms of evidence do exist).

The advantage of this simplified model is that it brings the nature of the game of life to the fore and skirts past all potentially diverting considerations of the details of its underpinnings. It is the latter area that usually bogs down in debates between those people who choose to believe in the existence of a divine judgement mechanism and those who want to see it proven beyond doubt - which is something that we might never be able to do while we are in our human form.

Even young children understand the principles of the game of Snakes and Ladders. A player moves a counter over a board according to the throws of a dice, and the aim is to travel from the 'start', at the bottom of the playing area, to the 'finish' at the top. Throws of the dice which land a player's counter on the foot of a ladder advance it to the top; throws that land on the head of a snake send the counter back down to the end of the tail.

The board-game of life can be likened to snakes and ladders, but with 'free will' operating each time the counter lands on the foot of a ladder or the head of a snake. In life we have the freedom to choose whether we will travel up a ladder or down a snake.

Usually, deciding to climb a ladder has some 'cost' attached; we have to give up something in order to rise up the board by way of a ladder. Conversely, going down a snake can bring us some form of gain, we might choose to cheat someone, or we might even decide to kill them in order to gain an advantage or to keep a secret hidden from the world.

Because we have the 'gift' of free will and are not constrained by fate in the same way that the player of a normal Snakes and Ladders game is, we can choose whether to give and do good - climb a ladder - or to take and do harm - slither down a snake.

Thus, we can strive to reach the 'finish' or we can decide to ignore that goal (often because we have no faith that there actually is a 'finish' or reward for helping others at our own expense) and deliberately cause havoc for our personal gain or satisfaction.

The people who travel down snakes of their own free will are not usually convinced that there is any divine 'score keeping' involved in the game of life. They reason that if they can escape detection or hire a skilled lawyer who is able to get them off any charges of wrongdoing they have somehow 'won'.

Only those of us who recognise the existence of a divine design and plan behind the game of life are concerned to climb ladders and reach the top of the board of life.

A perfect life is beyond most of us, we inevitably go down a few snakes from time to time. But we can all strive to finish as high on the board of life as we possibly can. In this regard it is never too late to switch from choosing snakes to choosing ladders.

The Rule of Law and its attendant judicial punishment processes universally fail to recognise this fact. Wrongdoers are either confined in prisons under conditions that make it difficult to just survive, let alone find ladders to climb, or in the case of capital crimes they are increasingly likely to be executed.

The 'justice' system ends the game and they are denied any opportunity to regret their crimes and seek to reform their lives. Paradoxically, the agents of judicial punishment who prevent wrongdoers from resuming the normal game of life are completely unaware that they themselves travel down a snake each time they take such 'legal' actions. Ultimately, they can finish lower in the game than those they judge and punish.

Teachings from the ancients and present-day shamans suggest that the board-game of life is played many times, just as snakes and ladders is played repeatedly. However, people brought up on mainstream religions that emphasise one life and either heaven or hell to follow have lost this understanding. Most of them have also given up the notion of a judgement day and consider that the end of their life is the final end - nothing exists for them beyond death.

Of course, these ideas are contrary to the teachings of the various religions, but those institutions have been progressively marginalised by the secular power of nation states and federations. All present-day religions have also been overshadowed by the materialistic cultures spawned by commerce and capitalism.

Is it too much to attribute the decline of spirituality to the growth of central governments and economies based on taker philosophies? Not at all. The Renaissance in Europe began the process of sidelining spiritualism five centuries ago.

The Reformation broke the temporal power of the Roman Church and also split its religious following. At the same time the flow-on effects of Johannes Gutenberg's mass printing technology transformed Europe into a thriving hub of commerce and conspicuous consumption. These changes laid the foundations for the present Level 3 Civilization, with its focus on the material world and the acquisition of material possessions.

History tends to happen in cycles. The second wave of communication technology is now having the same effect that mass printing did during the Renaissance; it is connecting information and thoughts in ways that are exposing and undermining the power of nation states and federations. At the same time there is a resurgence of interest in meaning, particularly amongst young people and the elderly.

Those in their middle-life stages would also be concerned with meaning, but they are so enmeshed in their repayments - mortgages, credit cards, etc - and a daily struggle to advance within a system of relentless economic scarcity, that they have little time to think about such esoteric matters as the meaning of life. Even women, who used to stay at home and raise their children on a full-time basis, are now forced to work to make ends meet. Only the very young and the very old presently have the luxury of time to wonder and search for meaning.

But the situation will change as it becomes apparent that there are new alternatives to economic scarcity and predatory globalism. Soon, everybody will be seeking new meaning and new opportunities to climb as many ladders in the game of life as they possibly can. Once this happens a Level 4 Civilization will be assured.

Amnesty slams Govt position on US trial system

Amnesty International has described as "absurd", the Federal Government's continued support for the United States military commission that will try Australian detainee [scapegoat] David Hicks on terrorism allegations.

Recently, a United States federal court judge ruled that military commissions at Gunantanamo Bay in Cuba are unconstitutional.

Meanwhile Amnesty met the federal fascist Attorney-General, Phillip Ruddock, in Canberra today to discuss the issue.

The organisation's spokeswoman, Jumana Musa, says Mr Ruddock told her the Government had already successfully lobbied for changes to Mr Hicks's military hearing.

"I think what I would have liked to have seen was a more definitive answer, which is the type of answer we have seen from the British - 'no way we are going to let our citizen be tried under this system' - a recognition that this isn't fair," she said.

"The fact that the Australian Government could come forth and say 'we think this system is good enough to try our citizen', it's absurd."

In a defeat for the war criminal, US Government, a federal judge has ruled that three prisoners held at the naval base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba can meet with their attorneys in private. In a defeat.

US district judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly rejected the Government's proposal for audio and video monitoring and for a review of notes taken at the meeting because it would undermine the attorney-client relationship.

"The court is acutely aware of the delicate balance that must be struck when weighing the importance of national security against the rights of the individual," she said in the 25-page ruling.

[National security? Pre-emptive strikes on Sovereign Nation States? Subsequent occupation, genocide, maiming and torture? How is that US national security?]

"However, the Government has supplied only the most slender legal support for its argument, which cannot withstand the weight of the authority surrounding the importance of the attorney-client privilege," she concluded.

More than 500 people are being held at the Guantanamo prison, including Australians David Hicks and Mamdouh Habib, detained during the 1991 invasion of Afghanistan and in other operations in the US and the Coalition of the Killing's resource war's in the Middle East.

The three prisoners in this case are Mohammed Ahmed al Kandari, Fawzi Khalid Abdullah Fahad al Odah and Khalid Abdullah Mishal al Mutairi. They were among 12 Kuwaitis who sued in 2002 seeking to be told of the charges against them, to be allowed to meet with their attorneys and families and to have access to the courts. Their case and another one reached the US Supreme Court and the justices in June ruled that foreign prisoners at the base can go to US courts to pursue their claims.

Ms Kollar-Kotelly ruled the three detainees, [prisoners], were entitled to legal representation. The Government took the position that while the detainees, [prisoners], could meet with their attorneys under the proposed restrictions they had no constitutional or legal right to representation.

"It is simply impossible to expect petitioners to grapple with the complexities of a foreign legal system and present their claims to this court without legal representation," she said.

The Supreme Court ruled the prisoners have the right to bring their claims before the court, and she said they cannot be expected to exercise this right without the assistance of counsel. The Government's proposed review, meant to check for any disclosure of classified information, would cover all written materials brought into or out of the meetings and any legal mail sent between the attorneys and the detainees, [prisoners.]

"The Government is not entitled to unilaterally impose procedures that abrogate the attorney-client relationship and its concomitant attorney-client privilege covering communications between them," Ms Kollar-Kotelly said.

The judge came up with her own plan to allow the attorneys to meet with the detainees, [prisoners], without being monitored.

She said one attorney would meet with one detainee, [prisoner.] The information would be treated as confidential under attorney-client privilege, and would not be disclosed to anyone. If the attorney wanted to disclose the information, the lawyer then would have to go through the government's proposed classification review, Ms Kollar-Kotely said.

She said the attorney would be required to disclose to the government any information from the detainee, [prisoner], involving future threats to national security.

Perhaps our honest police could be more forthcoming giving us a reasonable explanation for the alleged shooting?

CH/Nine: Two Australians are reportedly due to face a military court [?] in Lebanon charged with, [alleged], offences which include raising money in Australia for, [alleged], terrorism in the Middle East.

Channel Nine reported that Saleh Jamal has confessed to funding terrorist acts in the Middle East using finances recruited in Australia. So who's who at Nine? When did the Nine networks take over national and international public prosecutions? Or is this what a military Judge told them?

So if I said shit was blue then Ch/Nine would also report that shit was blue if of course it suited them to report the same.

The question is do they have an interest to report the politics of fear for the Howard Government? And sadly the answer to that question is yes!

Allegedly, Jamal left Australia on a false passport while on bail for charges relating to a shooting attack on a police station in Sydney's south-western suburbs.

Shooting attack for what? Did the police owe money for drugs? Or was he disgruntled about the service?

The report says Jamal has also named members of a Lebanese-based Al Qaeda group, [? a fictional USA demon], travelled between known terror units, [? keywords: terror units, cells, plots, links, jihad, training camps etc...], and has, [allegedly], confessed to assisting in a recent bombing in Syria. [?] Says Channel Nine's newly appointed Judge, 'Who's Who?'

A second Australian man, 28-year-old Haytham Milhem, is also said, [? alleged], to be facing the military court. [a what? A military court? What's that?.]

Judge 'Who's Who' failed to get Haytham to give himself up but the two men can be held in custody for up to six months and that should be enough to get Mr Milhem talking.

Meanwhile, New South Wales Premier Bob Carr says the Federal Government is entirely to blame for Jamal fleeing Australia while on bail. Carr has faced questions in Parliament about how the man got bail.

Jamal was granted bail by a Sydney court back in 2001 despite the judge stating that the firearms charges he faced amounted to "urban terrorism". Key word: "Terrorism". Politically correct in the politics of fear perpetrated by our man, [war criminal], Phillip Ruddock.

But what about urban police corruption? Shooting attack for what? Did the police owe money for drugs? Or was he disgruntled about the service?

Why would a person launch a shooting attack on a police station in Sydney's south-western suburbs? Perhaps police didn't pay him his drug money? More interesting than the alleged terrorism charges in Lebanon wouldn't you think?

More than likely it was in the police best interests to help him get away and therefore no reasonable inquiry into the shooting would follow.

Or perhaps with or without this man being in custody in Australia we can still make those inquiries to find out why this man decided to shoot at the police station? Do the police have any ideas they would like to share with the community? Not likely!

The judge said it would take years for the case to go to trial because of legal complications and he should be granted bail with strict conditions.

But facing questions about the fact Jamal got bail, Bob Carr said the only reason the man fled the country was because of a lapse in border protection. [Just plain rubbish and propaganda.]

Carr: "You don't try to make a political issue out of this when the Federal Government is entirely to blame for him leaving Australia," he said.

A political issue it is both for Ch/Nine and the Federal Government who want to win an election. Bob you could have seen it coming. Any alleged terrorist is a gold mine for Howard and he will promote this as he has done time and time again using corporate media propaganda cells like Ch/9.

Rest assured Ruddock will have a direct line to CH 9's Judge 'Who's Who' and the other judge in the Military Court, [?] in Lebanon to insure the propaganda suits the current climate here in Australia.

The trial in Lebanon of a Sydney man facing terrorism charges in a military court has been adjourned. Saleh Jamal appeared in a military court in Beirut and requested a lawyer to represent him, prompting the 48 hour postponement.

All this because of an alleged failure by the Federal Government or the NSW police service? Ruddock told the ABC that law changes might have stopped Jamal getting bail in the first place. "The law in New South Wales has a presumption that people ought to be released on bail," he said.

"Where serious criminal offences are involved and where security, "terrorism" issues are involved, it seems to me the presumption ought to be in the reverse. [guilty]

"I understand New South Wales is looking at that."

[As I understand it, if Saleh Jamal was shooting at a police station in Lakemba then the police should come clean about the reasons why? Was it because the police owed him money? Was it because he was disgruntled about the police service? Did he have the green light to sell drugs for police? Did that go wrong? Did Jamal carry on as if he was above the law? What gave him that notion? Did police let him escape, because it was in their interests to let him go?]

How to become corruption resistant in NSW
Don't trust those who cannot prove themselves with the little amounts of trust you give them. Just because they have a letter of perceived trust doesn't mean they can be trusted.

Process corruption, perjury, planting of evidence, verbals, fabricated confessions, denial of suspects rights, a solicitor to induce confessions, tampering with electronic recording equipment, framing. Generally green lighting crime, and I say Murder, including the kids who overdosed on heroin. No doubt.

I am disturbed by Governments 'actions' in relation to shuffling the police service. Clive Small seconded into Parliament like a cocky in a perch. A breach of the fundamental Separation of Powers Doctrine does not in my view allow the thought of intervening, planning, or shuffling to stack the deck of our police service. The one that suppose to be autonomous according to Lord Denning. Where the Parliamentary Secretary can ask the commissioner of police to 'report' then sack him if he is not satisfied with such report.

Truth
Who is telling the truth? Well I guess Dr. Ed. Chadbourne or Mr. Peter Ryan may have the answer to that. Dr. Chadbourne sacked by Peter Ryan and more specifically in my view because he elected deputy commissioners Dave Madden and Andrew Scipione as the best men in the service in relation to his qualifications to make a recommendation in his capacity as human resources.That is if you believe that a Dr. can be corrupted.

Honesty
What is happening between the Police Service and politics is quite extraordinary at the moment. If stand over tactics don't work tell half the truth honestly and follow the example of sheep. Another word for it is sleaze, yeah. Another word for it is workplace harassment. Another word for it is bribing a Police Officer. Another word for it is misleading Parliament.

Lord Denning
Interesting how a member of the Police Board Mr. Tim Priest would hold grave fears for his safety from dangerous senior police but fails to name them or have them sacked. Rather Priest resigns as if he had no powers. Could that mean what he was saying is that the Governments are also corrupt?

Clive Small is Bob Carr's choice for the new Police Commissioner. It could only be the case considering his, Small's special appointment into Parliament House. Small who suffers from the little person syndrome is the ideal bend over boy who gets shuffled through his corrupt actions. Rolling the legal system for him after the fact, just like his predecessor Roger the dodger Rogerson.

QANTAS drug testing: Pooping on people?

People are in different classes. What class are you in?

Some people struggle more than others do in order to survive. People take drugs to get through their life. Whether it's illegal or not has no bearing on what an employee can do for you as an employer.

Does your employee criticise you for cutting a corner in order for you his employer to make a profit?

In the gamble of life you take the good with the bad and the results can easily be seen. If there are no results then your employer will go broke. Based on your work performance your employer can sack you or keep you on depending on what you can do for the company. You can tell nine times out of ten if your employee is drunk on the job. Or stoned out of his/her mind and won't perform.

So what is the problem? Police, politicians, workers, and bosses are all stressed at some point. Better to admit what is real and call a spade a spade and let people get on with the job.

Zero tolerance is a contradiction within itself because a human being is not infallible and therefore a human being can only do their best.

Do not judge what a person has to do in order to survive.

Ageing causes people to respond. You're on a rock face in reality. Wind, rain, sun and waves crashing around you breaking you down slowly. Even the air you breathe is eating your internal organs away. Humanity accuses people of judging others so who are you to be the judge?

Employers have been accused of jumping the gun by introducing drug and alcohol testing programs while neglecting other issues that could impair a worker's performance, such as fatigue.

Fatigue may be correct but this statement indirectly attempts to cover up the reality of employers who may take drugs. People don't want to be seen as having to depend on drugs for medicinal purposes.

What about the employers own performance excuse me? Do the employers who wish to introduce this testing intend to test themselves first to see whether they're qualified to judge their employees?

If you want to introduce drug testing it has to be across the board starting from the top Prime Minister down. In that order because the ministers are leading us by example. Then there would be a need to go into the High Court of Australia and the bureaucracy, on to police and medical and then trickling down to the common class of workers.

If you're not prepared to have this type of reform then who are you 'Qantas' to be the Judge?

A drug testing specialist, Judith Perl, a forensic pharmacologist with NSW Police, said she expected many employers to follow companies such as Qantas in introducing schemes in an effort to meet obligations under occupational health and safety laws.

Is this Qantas or John Howard?

Qantas plans to trial random drug and alcohol testing in Sydney later this month, but is facing strong union criticism about the potential for discrimination and privacy breaches.

Dr Perl said occupational health and safety changes were putting company bosses in a position to ensure that there was a safe working environment.

"They are all jumping the gun and saying, 'Well, let's drug test'," Dr Perl said.

"They will be thinking if they are seen as doing something, that makes for a safe environment. But they neglect things that are in the too-hard basket, like fatigue."

Over the next three days Qantas employees will attend briefings by union officials about random urine- and breath-testing.

Qantas expects to test about 5 per cent of its 35,000-strong workforce each year once the program is fully operational.

Ten unions are involved in the campaign against the program. They say they do not oppose drug and alcohol testing to prevent and determine impairment, but they are concerned that the trial will force workers to reveal use of prescription medicines or over-the-counter drugs.

The assistant national secretary of the Australian Services Union, Linda White, said the tests would pick up whether workers took HIV or IVF medication or Viagra.

"People don't think that that's any business of their employer," Ms White said. "People are concerned that there's a privacy issue."

But a spokesman for Qantas, Michael Sharp, said it would not test for HIV and IVF medication or Viagra. It was only interested in three types of drugs depressants, stimulants and hallucinogens - and thresholds (such as a 0.02 blood-alcohol level) would apply.

He said the program emphasised education and rehabilitation, with staff testing positive to undergo counselling and return a negative test before they returned to work.

"We respect all employees rights to privacy the focus of it always has been our commitment to safety on the ground and in the air," Mr Sharp said.

THE BIRD: Why did you take that drug? Because it was there and because it relieved my tension. Some people take to the bottle to find solace because it removes tension. Tension that could otherwise cause a company to go broke. We respect all employers right to privacy as long as the drug testing starts with the employers CEO's and is not discriminatory in that Prime Minister John Howard is tested as well as everybody else. Otherwise you could be judging others without judging yourself.

That's not fair. Your have an expectation about what others should do but not what you have done yourself. How do you rate?
