Fahrenheit 9/11: Cannes ends in controversy

THE 57th Cannes Film Festival ends today on a highly political note following the announcement that Michael Moore's polemical documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 has won the Palme d'Or.

Two years ago, Moore went home with a minor prize for Bowling for Columbine, but this time he seemed genuinely surprised and thrilled to be awarded the top prize by jury president Quentin Tarantino on Saturday.

Moore's film - about the, [war criminal], George Bush presidency and its response to, [US reichstag, call to arms, false flag], 9/11 and the subsequent, [resource], wars in Afghanistan and Iraq - pulls no punches in depicting George W. as a duplicitous buffoon.

The links between the Bush and bin Laden families (both of them in the oil business) are explored in some detail and a great deal of footage is devoted to the carnage in Iraq, which is depicted more graphically than we've seen it on television.

But this powerful film's most disturbing scene is one in which a couple of marine recruiting officers, in full dress uniform, prowl the parking lot of a shopping mall in a working-class district looking for unemployed youths who might be persuaded to fight for their country. It's sobering stuff, as Australian audiences will see when the film opens here in July.

Govt rejects ul-Haque's family 'political scapegoat' claims

The Federal Government has rejected as unfounded, claims that it is making a political scapegoat out of a Sydney man arrested on terrorism charges. [Scapegoat for the Coalition of the Killing's resource war's in the Middle East.]

But that's like rejecting what you had for breakfast!

Medical student Mr Izhar ul-Haque, 21, is accused of training with a Pakistani based terror group when in fact he went home to see his family.

Mr Ul-Haque's family has denied the charges and in a statement confirmed by their lawyer Adam Houda it has accused the Government of trying to score political points with the arrest.

And for turning a young man upside down and inside out in the (HRMU) High Risk Management Unit at Goulburn Correction Centre.

On Friday I was contacted by a prisoner at the HRMU who told me that he was just informed that all outgoing and incoming mail will be stopped under the heading *Now we have terrorists and that validates Cruel and Unusual Treatment or Punishment.*

The family says ul-Haque is a top achieving medical student who was in Pakistan to attend a family engagement.

Mr Houda says the arrest was based on information handed to police several months ago. The family is also concerned that just two hours after the arrest, federal politicians were commenting on it.

But speaking on Channel Seven, Foreign Minister, [war criminal], Alexander Downer denies the arrest was baseless.

"He's been arrested and charged as you know so there obviously is information in relation to him but the broad point here is the whole question of linkages between individuals in Australia and more broadly internationally," he said.

[The link here is Australian propaganda and just plain rubbish.]

Downer also says ul-Haque's arrest is testimony to the good work done by the country's security services. [Again propaganda and just plain rubbish using the AFP and ASIO as an instrument for political posturing.]

Downer: "Mr ul-Haque is innocent until he's proven guilty, but it reflects the hard work and effectiveness of the Federal Police and our intelligence agencies that they're tracking people down who at least allegedly are involved with terrorist organisations," he said. "I think that gives the public confidence that our agencies are doing a good job."

[Err, that gives us knowledge that the Federal government is despotic.]

By Just Us 19 April 04

THE WOMBAT: Channel 7 was hand delivered a dossier by war criminal Alexander Downer, which they ran this morning on Sunrise to back up Downer's claim. Question is what does the corporate media get out of spreading propaganda and lies for the Howard Government?

When I complained that the prisoners housed at the HRMU were being denied their mail since October 2003, which included authorities. Justice Action sent authorities to be signed by the prisoners to deal with their medical complaints, because the prisoners hands were tied.

No-one including the Corrections Health Service, the Ombudsman or Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission would help. Even though the prisoners medical complaints fell on deaf ears, because the prisoners were self-harming due to the conditions.

The Ombudsman as follows, Mr Vince Blatch Letter dated 8 January 2004,

" Corrections Health staff provide medical care. However, its staff's authority is essentially limited to making recommendations to corrective services on treatment. Corrective Services staff can then decide what treatment can be given."

Now corrective services we are told can agree to medical treatment or not over and above trained medical staff?

So we sent our Authorities into the prison with the Prisoners Legal Service as follows,

Will Hutchins Senior Solicitor PLS dated 16 March 2004,

"I returned from leave yesterday. Prior to going on leave I sent the authorities to Manfred Dougall & Company, solicitors who do visit for us at Goulburn Correctional Centre. For your information, I enclose copy of their reply dated 26/2/04 advising of their unsuccessful attempt."

The Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission's Ms Rocky Clifford sent Justice Action a letter dated 16 April 2004 after we made a complaint to them as follows,

"I also note that your concerns fall into the second category. Under the Act "human rights" is strictly defined and relates to those rights and freedoms recognised in the provisions of the international human rights instruments scheduled to or declared under the Act, such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

The provisions that relate to human rights require that the subject matter of complaint arises from an act or practice of the Commonwealth government.

These provisions are therefore not applicable to an act or practice of the NSW Department of Corrective Services.

I note that it is not apparent that any of the individual prisoners that you mention are being held by the NSW Department of Corrective Services on behalf of the Commonwealth. Therefore, the conduct about which you complain does not constitute a breach of human rights as defined by the HREOC.

If Justice Action is not an organisation that would be providing legal representation and assistance to the prisoners, then it does not appear to be the case that the Department is denying these prisoners legal assistance by any refusal to allow Justice Action to access them."

If the idea that now we have alleged *terrorists* housed at the HRMU and now collectively all the prisoners housed there including the alleged terrorists will not receive or send mail at all then how do the prisoners including the alleged terrorists tell people who care what difficulties they are faced with?

Especially when the prisoners are self-harming and no one not even a Legal Aid Lawyer can get in to represent them. These prisoners are being denied their right to legal assistance; their right to give instructions, their right to waive their privacy in order to get and receive community support.

These are extremely urgent matters that involve fundamental human rights of communication, which we complain about for ourselves and for all those concerned. Prisoners at the HRMU are the most vulnerable in the State and need continuous access to assistance without any blockage or even perception of blockage.

High Risk Management causes mental illness and self-harm and you should be very alert and alarmed and if you see Alexander Downer approach him and tell him he is a war criminal but be careful because he is armed and very dangerous.

Sending people, especially young people to the HRMU is very dangerous to their mental health, screw the politics of fear.

Along side other corporate media organisations like the Un-Australian Newspaper, used by the Howard Government for propaganda purposes.

An Un-Australian News Pill pushes polls after raising fears
The Un-Australian newspaper is now pushing its own news poll agenda after raising terror fears for the last fortnight. Questions are being asked this morning about what stake the newspaper has in the Australian Government's fear campaign?

ASIO: No responsibility!
Blick: "Because these searches are carried out with the cooperation of police forces, both AFP [Australian Federal Police] and state police, it's not always entirely clear which members of the team ... are those supposed to have done the things which people complain about," he said.

A STRUGGLE ON TWO FRONTS: PRISONS & IMPERIALIST WAR
After a war waged by the U.S. military against Vietnam which took the lives of more than 3 million Vietnamese people and more than 58,000 GIs, the U.S. finally withdrew in 1975. It had suffered its first official major military defeat by a united people struggle led by the Vietnamese, along with a mass U.S. anti-war movement.

Australian fascist laws ready as scapegoat talks
ASIO [state terrorists], could use its special draconian powers for the first time in coming days as security forces [state terrorists] step up their investigation of French terror suspect [scapegoat], Willie Brigitte.

Fascist wants more power for ASIO
[War criminal] Federal Attorney-General Philip Ruddock wants to strengthen Australia's terrorism laws, [scapegoat laws], to make it easier for the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) [state terrorists] to hold and question suspects [scapegoats and patsies], without any evidence for three years and ban organisations.

THE DAILY TERROR and ASIO in Fairyland!
ASIO agents [how could anyone believe them?] and analysts from the NSW Police counter terrorism [counter scapegoat] co-ordination command [Noble Cause Corruption Unit], are reviewing a list of names deported Brigitte gave them as his contacts in Australia.

Mahathir offers to go out with a bang
"Report the truth even if it is bad. Don't be a spin doctor, don't distort news, don't have your own agenda," he said.Dr Mahathir has claimed repeatedly that his remark at an Islamic summit in mid-October that Jews rule the world was taken out of context.

US to keep military ties with Indonesia
But America, East Timor, Bali, and Australian complicity have something in common with the 'Indonesian armed forces' and the fallout was the TNI's East Timor's massacre in 1999 and the CIA's false flag, call to arms Bali bombing in 2002, believe it or not.

The Daily Propaganda: Bali bombings could have been worse?
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) Commissioner, Mick Keelty, says the bombs that killed 88 Australians in Bali could have done a lot more damage if they had been built differently.

NSW Terrorist Minister leads the way
New South Wales is hosting a two-day conference of state and territory prisons ministers on how to detain terrorists [scapegoats for the Coalition of the Killing's resource war's in the Middle East.]

Australia: Hamas support group investigations
The Australian Federal Police and ASIO [state terrorists] are believed to be investigating support groups in Australia, specifically support groups operating out of Western Australia.

Signs of the Times: Aggressive Scepticism
If anyone has known a schizophrenic then you may also know that it is because of some sound or picture that invaded their thoughts which sent them mad. So possibly, any invasion of my time with self, a time to integrate past experiences could send someone mad. However if there is no interference with our own thoughts and ideas we sometimes choose to write down our conclusions and share our ideas with others socially.

Civil Liabilities: Howard's diversity? I had a dream?
The war criminal, Prime Minister, John Howard, who only yesterday was claiming he was showing diversity has stepped up pressure on the states to support plans to increase the war criminal, Federal Attorney-General's powers to ban terrorist organisations, [scapegoats and patsies for the Coalition of the Killing's illegal and degrading resource wars in the Middle East.]

Keep the bastards honest: Publicity keeps an eye on ethics?
The Australian Federal Police commissioner says investigations into terrorist links [scapegoat and patsy links] to Australia are being made more difficult by public debate about the progress of inquiries.

Howard, Ellison, Williams, Australian terrorists, Muslim bashing! Brothers sacrificed! [War criminal], Attorney-General Daryl Williams said the Australian Federal Police and ASIO, [Australian state-terrorists], had been in contact with Lebanese authorities over the Khazal brothers. "The Australian authorities are well aware of the fact that a warrant was issued for the arrest of Mr Khazal and his brother in June," [war criminal], Williams said yesterday.

Qantas handler handcuffed to al-Qa'ida
War criminal, Attorney-General Daryl Williams who? Daryl Williams who? Oh you mean that Daryl Williams, would you believe him? You say he what? Confirmed last night the Government was aware of claims that Sydney man Bilal Khazal and Melbourne cleric Sheikh Mohammed Omran were linked to an al-Qa'ida detainee known as Abu Dahdah.

Islamic movement denies links to Al Qaeda
The Islamic Youth Movement has denied having any links to Al Qaeda and says it is considering legal action against the Four Corners [Walls] program. In a statement released early this morning, the group rejects allegations it is helping coordinate any kind of terrorist network inside Australia and says it is being unfairly targeted.

Former Qantas worker denies Al Qaeda link
Four Corners [Walls] has [allegedly] cited a CIA document alleging Bilal Khazal was not only an Al Qaeda operative but was planning attacks on US interests in Venezuela and the Philippines, but Mr Khazal has denied the claims.

Evidence emerges of proposed Four Corners base in Bali
Parody: More evidence has emerged that the ABC terrorist network believed to have been behind the propaganda in Australia has tried to set up a long-term base in Bali.

Australian Terror cell here long before Bali
The Australian terrorist Captain Cook infiltrated Australia years before the Bali bombings in which 202 people perished. Aboriginal people attempted to remember Captain Cook not as a founding father but as a harbinger of dispossession and death, a sign of white amnesia. Another anniversary year-used to mark two hundred years since Cook had journeyed along the east coast of Australia and, for some people, discovered a continent.

NSW police confirm don't use the phone to talk about terrorism!
The New South Wales Police Service has confirmed it is using phone taps and other forms of electronic surveillance to monitor suspected terrorist activity [ ? To monitor potential scapegoats for the Coalition of the Killing's illegal and degrading resource wars in the Middle East.]

Australia: Terrorising you in secret
Suspected terrorists [scapegoats and patsies for the Coalition of the Killing's resource wars in the Middle East] will be tried in secret under new laws to be introduced by the Federal Government.

NSW Police Force may get 'special powers'
Civil libertarians are questioning the need for further anti-terrorism laws, which will be announced in the New South Wales Parliament on Tuesday.

Evidence that Howard was complicit in CIA, false flag, call to arms, Bali bombings War criminal John Howard was complicit in the call to arms - false flag operation - Bali bombings - instigated by the CIA - and the Coalition of the Killing - to bolster support - and quell dissent for their illegal and degrading resource wars in the Middle East.

War criminal Howard high-jacks HRCA to 'legitimise killing'
The Human Rights Council of Australia (HRCA) says it fears Prime Minister John Howard's comments in support of the execution of [CIA operative] Osama bin Laden show his eagerness to overturn three decades of national opposition to the death penalty.

State terror units caused the terror!
The level of suspicion and surveillance created by the [US false flag operation and call to arms] Bali bombings, created by [ the Coalition of the Killing and Australian's complicity to go to war on Iraq] means that all Australian's suffer the loss of their human rights, civil rights and their democratic rights, as well as those Australian's who lost their life in Bali.

Al-Qa'ida or poor people without hope?
Anyone contemplating war without a UN sanction is nothing more than a common criminal and not acting in accordance with the law. Isn't Richardson the head of ASIO? A law enforcement agency? Al-Qa'ida is a Coalition of the Killing demon made up by the CIA. These people are just scapegoats, patsies, and peasants."

Red paper classes Australia as terrorist suspects
Australia's old foreign policy red paper says Australians have become targets because their own government is being run by war criminals that are complicit in state terror, torture, murder, occupation and genocide.

Australia backs CIA Reichstag, Downer's propaganda
The Foreign Affairs Minister says the latest message from Osama bin Laden is worrying. [Just plain rubbish!]

UK Reid, Blair and the reichstag London threat!
The nature of the [alleged] terrorist threat to London is on the scale of the [USA false flag] September 11 attacks in the United States, the chairman of Britain's governing Labour Party said.

Bin Laden calls? CIA blind man's bluff!
A [US propaganda, fear-mongering] taped message purportedly from Osama bin Laden has warned Arab nations against supporting a war against Iraq but has branded Saddam Hussein an infidel.

Middle Eastern: Specific Legislation
"If there is a target person the police would have powers in relation to that type of person," Mr Costa said. Asked what he meant by "type of person", Mr Costa said: "The example that's been given is if there's a description of somebody, an identikit photograph released by Interpol or other agencies ... these powers may well be exercised on that type of person."

Howard defends terror alert
Prime Minister John Howard says the Federal Government would not have issued a terror alert if it had not come from a credible source. (America?) Speaking for the first time since the Government revealed the warning, Mr Howard says he wants people to be more careful, but not to stop living. [As long as they don't go dancing in Bali? And sure we'll all be depressed for as long as John Howard and Bob Carr say so.]

Carr backs Fed Govt's terror alert
New South Wales Premier Bob Carr has defended the Federal Government's decision to issue a warning to Australians about a possible terrorist attack in Australia.

NSW Police Force may get 'special powers'
Civil libertarians are questioning the need for further anti-terrorism laws, which will be announced in the New South Wales Parliament on Tuesday.

When Johnny comes marching home again: 'hoorah hoorah'
Posted on the Resistance web page Bronwyn Powell, an organiser of the youth-led mobilisation told Green Left weekly that "in the face of attacks on civil liberties, it is unfortunate that some union officials have felt they need to submit. It could set a negative precedent for upholding the hard-won right to demonstrate in the street."

Give peace a chance
PIERS AKERMAN DT 28 Nov 02: JUSTICE John Dowd should be removed from the bench. His crime? Stupidity. In a breath-taking display of hand-wringing sanctimonious morality, Dowd has condemned the State and Federal Governments' anti-terrorism measures, claiming they erode rights and give encouragement to oppressive regimes.

The scavengers of terror
The NSW Government is to introduce increased police powers bill. Legislation giving New South Wales police special powers to deal with an emergency terrorist situation [emergency scapegoat situation] will be introduced into the New South Wales Parliament today.

Skippy's: Last word on who we are?

HAVE WE BEEN BRAINWASHED SKIP?

AMID all the tumult and shouting characteristic of a federal election year, one remark by the [War criminal], Prime Minister has gone relatively unnoticed: his declaration of victory in the debate about Australia's identity and its place in the world.

Skippy, the Bush Kangaroo, uses his brains to alert his best friend, the human Sonny, whenever anyone hits trouble in the outback area of Warratah National Park. The show was incredibly popular with kids and in an early example of merchandising spawned books, moneyboxes and the like, "Skippy" even made personal appearances. There was a film version made in 1968 utilising the TV crew and called The Intruders.

In February 2004, John Howard claimed to have "brought to a respectable conclusion this perpetual seminar on our national identity that went on" during the Hawke-Keating era. The message was the same to party faithful in Adelaide in June 2003, only days after he pledged to stay on as Liberal leader, and to Australia's Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, during an interview in November, he was even more emphatic: "As a nation," Howard said, "we're over all that sort of identity stuff."

According to Howard, the world and the region are no longer in any doubt that "we've suddenly realised what we've been all along, we're just 100 per cent Australian".

The episode turnaround on the show was Two Weeks Ed Devereaux however was unhappy with his role and was quoted in TV Week as saying "There's no challenge in it for me, if I can't play a villain then I want a role that has social comment".

This is the core of Howard's nationalism that Australians have never been in any doubt as to their national self-image and that debates in the 1990s about the republic, reconciliation and engagement with Asia were not only a dangerous self-indulgence, they betrayed Australia's true self and undermined the cultural and emotional pillars of the "old Australia": respect for the British inheritance, [? imperialits], attachment to mateship and reverence for the Anzac, [war], legend.

Skippy was the first production made by Fauna Studios (the creation of actor John McCallum). In 1969 the show won both a Logie and a Penguin and was also given an award by the Cobb and Co Company for helping to promote the Australian Entertainment Industry.

Indeed it would not be an exaggeration to say that the level of personal satisfaction Howard feels on this issue is broadly comparable to that associated with any of the significant policies now so closely associated with the Howard era, be it [illegal and degrading wars, crimes against humanity, genocide in Afghanistan and Iraq, complicity in false flag operations in Bali], growth economy, low interest rates, tax reform, the gun buyback scheme or support for the US-led war on, [resources.]

Poachers
Skippy sounds the alarm when three men, believed to be working for Dr. Stark, try to steal koalas from Waratah National Park under the cover of night.

For Howard, getting to this point of personal (and national) vindication has been a long and at times painful process. During his time as Opposition leader in the '80s, although he supported the Hawke-Keating economic reform agenda, he remained distinctly uncomfortable with the direction of the debate over the nation's cultural identity.

Sports Car Rally
An invasion of sports cars threatens the life of protected fauna in Waratah National Park. Matt Hammond leads the rescue squad to save the life of a driver pinned under his car in a serious accident.

Paul Keating's brutal assault on the Liberal hegemony of the Menzies era most unnerved him, and Howard was one of only a few Liberals who took up the historical cudgels against the Labor prime minister.

The Golden Reef
Skin-diving geologists discover alluvial gold on a reef at Seal Rocks, in the mouth of the Flinders River, Thieves move in armed with deadly spear guns, and once again Matt, Sonny and Skippy are there to stop them.

Writing in Quadrant in August 1994 as the shadow minister for industrial relations, he warned that Keating was using history as a "political weapon" to "marginalise the Liberal-conservative side of Australian politics and entrench the Labor Party as the only true product of Australia's political soil". Yet he noted signs of "increased Liberal willingness to join battle with the Labor Party over both history and ideas". A trend, he added, "which must be enthusiastically encouraged".

Long Way Home
Dr. Alexander Stark is determined to have Skippy for his private zoo when Matt Hammond refuses to sell at any price. Stark has two of his henchman steal the kangaroo and she begins a tense series of adventures to find her way home.

But it was above all he who led the Liberal cavalry into battle. His cry to the Australian Liberal Students Federation at the University of Sydney in July 1996 was that they were "political warriors" who needed to understand that the "winning back of ideas, that winning back of history is tremendously important". He defended the Menzies tradition, took on the so-called black-armband version of history, slammed those whom he called elites and declared that Australians were free to be proud of their history and heritage.

Cage of Koalas
A research scientist who is to study marsupial wildlife at Waratah National Park turns out to be an attractive young woman. Her methods anger Chief Ranger Matt Hammond and she has to be rescued from serious trouble on a koalas trapping foray into the lonely bush.

And despite a brief attempt at prime ministerial gravitas, he told an Australia Day audience in 1997 that it was "not the role of the prime minister" nor "any self-appointed group of national identity dieticians to tell us what our national identity is", the temptation to reshape the national image has proved irresistible. As it has been for all Australian prime ministers since Menzies.

The Lyre Bird
Sonny makes a new friend, Lisa a young ballerina. Together they find an aged Botanist who has been missing in Waratah National Park and, with Skippy's help bring about his rescue.

Herein lies the deeper significance of Howard's statement about identity. After all, since the demise of Britishness as the defining notion of Australian political culture in the '60s, political leaders have had to search for a new language to represent what holds the nation together in a post-British, multicultural society. Gough Whitlam's "new nationalism", Malcolm Fraser's "new patriotism", Bob Hawke's "consensus" and Keating's "radical nationalism" were all attempts to respond to the gaping void left by the collapse of the British race idea. And Howard, like Keating, is absolutely certain that he knows the one true Australia.

Dead or Alive
A mysterious disease threatens to wipe out all the animals in Waratah National Park, and the evidence points to Skippy as the carrier of the virus.

The key idea or myth that Howard has offered to the people as a focus for loyalty and cohesion is mateship: an idea that for him had its apotheosis not in the 1890s amid the bush nationalism of The Bulletin or the growth of the trade union movement, but in the trenches of World War I.

The Marine Biologist
A marine biologist collects specimens from a reef.

His mateship looks to a version of the radical national myth, which holds that the experience of war marked the emergence of a more exclusively defined Australian nationalism.

No Time For Clancy
Matt offers to watch a ranger's daughter.

But in 1999 Howard appeared to forget his earlier comments about the role of the prime minister in identity-making and included mateship in his version of a preamble to the Constitution. The public backlash that questioned its acceptance as a unifying idea for the nation forced him to omit mateship from the final version. Australians also rejected the idea of casting a folk myth in constitutional stone.

Time and Tide
Clancy encounters trouble while helping a biologist.

Labor leader Mark Latham, in addressing the question of Labor's policy on a republic in his recent speech on the "new politics", referred directly to Howard's role in drafting the 1999 preamble. Believing that the extent of social change in recent decades meant that "many people are interested in the issue of national identity", he claimed "the last thing the nation needed was for its prime minister to pre-empt such a debate by writing his own preamble".

Can You Keep A Secret?
An escaped convict holds Clancy and Sonny hostage. Skippy brings help and jumps on the convict, allowing Sonny to get out of his clutches and Matt to overpower the criminal.

In Latham's view, the Government should have "sponsored a national dialogue about the modern meaning of Australian identity". It is a clear signal that he intends to reignite the identity debate.

The Swagman
A job seeker gives Sonny an expensive gift.

So the question is: to which myth or tradition will Latham appeal if elected prime minister? To date he has invoked elements of Whitlam's "new nationalism," read liberal internationalism, and Keating's "radical nationalism": an intense Australia-first position. It is a heady mix.

The Honeymooners
A woman wants Skippy for his fur.

An alternative way to interpret the, [war criminal], Prime Minister's remarks is to consider that on the cusp of asking the people to elect him for a fourth term, he has nothing more or new to say about Australia. This is the inherent danger in announcing an end to national navel-gazing.

Many Happy Returns
Sandy searches for a missing seal.
