Money will save relationship services, welfare group says?

Catholic, [? religious bondage], Welfare Australia says the immediate injection of $15 million into family relationships programs will prevent planned cuts to services.

[Welfare? How about Relationship Service? Social Services? After all it is taxpayers who support it, not the ruling class or religion.]


Father Joe Caddy, chairman of the service, says the program has been under review for almost eight years, and funding has not kept up with increasing demand.

"The family relationship support programs were beginning to fall over, they were so lacking in funding," he said.

"We've had to reduce some of our services around the country from between 30 to 80 per cent so it's tremendous that that family relationship support services can be put back into place and be put on a reasonable footing."

Father Caddy has also welcomed the Prime Minister's announcement of the establishment of a new national community-based network of family relationship centres, providing mediation for separation and child custody disputes.

"1000 young guns run Sydney", claim opposition.

Sydney was being controlled by around a thousand gun-toting young men and a new jail was needed to put them in, the NSW opposition said on Friday, in the wake if Sydney's drive-by shootings.

Opposition police spokesperson Peter Debnam said such criminals should be locked up for the rest of their lives and police needed more resources to make sure that happened.

His comments follow this week's driveby shooting in Greenacre, which left two people dead.

"There's about a thousand young men, typically between 18 and 30 who are basically running Sydney at the moment," he told Sydney radio 2GB.

Mr Debnam called for prosecutors to pursue the maximum sentence for these people preferably life and a new prison to be built to house them.

"We need a new jail with those thousand young men in it," he said.

"We then say to the judiciary we want them in there for the term of their natural life".

GKCNN spoke to Mr Brett Collins from Justice Action who said that these killings and violence indicate considerable social problems. They aren't solved by threats but need someone asking the community why these problems are occurring and listening to the community.

" The suggestion that to force them with punishment is to solve everything is just political nonsense and ignores the community."

"Debnam hasn't even costed this rubbish. Three new jails are needed to house 1000 men at 150 million to build and an extra 70 million to run each year. Money better spent on hospitals and education" He said.

This fax has been stimulated by an approach by police to Gregory Kable by phone last night. They insisted on his attending the Kings X police straight away. Gregory reported to me that they were quite aggressive. He believes that it is for and extension of the AVO.

Just to bring Gregory's situation up to date, he works as a volunteer here at Justice Action as a totally dedicated caseworker, dealing with the most difficult cases ringing and writing from jails all over Australia. He opens up our premises at 8am every morning and is our receptionist.

He is a delight with a smile on his face that lightens up the day for people coming in, and a voice of friendship to those in the jails. Families talk with him all the time, and we proudly tell people of the contradiction that this man demonstrates. A man who was "dangerous" enough to formulate a law during the "law and order" pre-election period, now absorbed socially and a real asset. His compassion is presented constantly and we are very proud of him.

In March we renewed our mentoring arrangement with the Surry Hills Police Commander and notified the then Police Minister Michael Costa. He was told personally of the arrangement when we met with him a while ago, and said that he supported it as an example of community policing. I attach the correspondence.

I ask you to accept my personal assurance that Gregory is no problem whatever and that it is better for everyone to accept him back with goodwill we all move on and learn lessons of experience. We want to launch our mentoring project shortly and would highlight the achievements of Gregory as a fabulous example.

Would you ring me urgently to discuss the matter? Gregory will need to respond today to keep any tension out of the situation.

Please note order 7 was in response to Brett Collins mediation effort. No previous breach of any order made by the court had been entered in the previous three years Gregory Kable was ordered to abide by the AVO.

The AVO was originally taken out because Gregory Kable complained to Ms Moore of being harassed by the New South Wales police.

Subsequently police continued to harass Gregory after Gregory notified Ms Moore about the problem and Gregory had to approach Ms Moor his local MP on more than one occasion because the police harassment didn't stop.

Because of that reason and that reason alone Gregory was marginalised. There had been no breach of the law by Gregory Kable.

The complaints mechanism Gregory or any citizen for that matter can be taken away. Gregory has to seek relief using his local member and the New South Wales Parliament when a public office like police get it wrong. Now Gregory's complaint mechanism has been usurped for another period. Why?

I was sharply separated from both my children aged just 4 years and two years and sent to prison for the manslaughter of my wife. I cared for my children when my wife worked and I believe that I still had a responsibility to them even after the crisis situation and tragedy. The New South Wales Opposition has described a decision by the State Government to abolish the double jeopardy law as a political stunt.

And subsequent constant 'trial by media'?]

The Shadow Police Minister Andrew Tink says the Opposition has been calling for the removal of double jeopardy for some time, and has accused the Government of trying to gain political mileage from the issue.

[Me too? Just a bunch of political stunts by Lib/Lab! Undermining the integrity of the law and the constitution.]

Tink: "This issue's been raised repeatedly," he said.

"If the Premier got his act together, we could have some legislation through the Parliament and in force now dealing with the double jeopardy issue.

"Instead, it's raised at the 11th hour as a campaign issue and the community's now got to wait probably until the middle of the year for any legislation to come in."

The Herald reported 25 Nov 02 "a DNA saliva swab led to the charging of a former prisoner with the bashing murder of a woman. The Herald reported 25 Nov 02 "a DNA saliva swab led to the charging of a former prisoner with the bashing murder of a woman. Police had been unable to find any witnesses or suspects following the murder in Sydney's inner city two years ago. Detectives had admitted they faced a tough job finding the killer."

Prisoners can prove innocence for $20
Les Kennedy Daily Telegraph reported today that" Prisoners who believe that DNA will prove they were wrongly convicted will have the chance to prove their innocence for a mere $20 administration fee. The move comes 20 months after NSW inmates were asked to provide DNA for comparison with a databank of DNA from unsolved crime scenes for possible convictions.

The one that suppose to be autonomous according to Lord Denning. Where the Parliamentary Secretary can ask the commissioner of police to 'report' then sack him if he is not satisfied with such report.

Prison Mind Games-Do they exist?
Directives are given inside the prison system that are not consistent with the law in NSW. And not in the good interests of the health and well being of the prisoners.

Truth
Who is telling the truth? Well I guess Dr. Ed. Chadbourne or Mr. Peter Ryan may have the answer to that. Dr. Chadbourne sacked by Peter Ryan and more specifically in my view because he elected deputy commissioners Dave Madden and Andrew Scipione as the best men in the service in relation to his qualifications to make a recommendation in his capacity as human resources.That is if you believe that a Dr. can be corrupted.

Honesty
What is happening between the Police Service and politics is quite extraordinary at the moment. If stand over tactics don't work tell half the truth honestly and follow the example of sheep. Another word for it is sleaze, yeah. Another word for it is workplace harassment. Another word for it is bribing a Police Officer. Another word for it is misleading Parliament.

Interesting how a member of the Police Board Mr. Tim Priest would hold grave fears for his safety from dangerous senior police but fails to name them or have them sacked. Rather Priest resigns as if he had no powers. Could that mean what he was saying is that the Governments are also corrupt?
