Italy need passport to internet /PH/FX

ITALY: Anyone visiting Italy and wanting to use an internet point, or cafe, will need to take along their passport - and be prepared for a major invasion of their privacy.

Anti-terrorist legislation prompted by the [false flag] London bombings in July imposes a string of new obligations on the managers of businesses offering the public access to communications.

As of this week, they must obtain - and, according to some interpretations, photocopy - the identity documents of anyone wishing to access the internet, send a fax or make a telephone call.

Not only that. They must also supply the police with records of the times at which customers enter and leave the premises and which computers or telephones they use.

Owners now need a licence to run an internet point or call shop, and to get one they have to provide detailed information about their business, including a floor plan of the premises.

Commercial communications centres have repeatedly cropped up in investigations into international terrorism. The first arrests in connection with the 2004 [false flag] Madrid train bombings were [allegedly] made at a call shop in the Lavapies district of the Spanish capital, which has a large immigrant community. France is reportedly planning to introduce similar legislation. [Sure!]

Andrew Pitt from Liverpool, who runs a combined call shop and internet cafe in Venice said his business had already been hit by the Italian law. [State Terror.]

"The problem is that tourists come along without their passports. Today, we have lost at least 15 customers because they didn't have any identification", Mr Pitt said.

"About 70% of our customers are American or British and they're just not used to this sort of thing. Italians don't usually complain because its normal to be asked to provide identification here."

Illegal immigrants in Italy will be deeply reluctant to provide identification, if indeed they have any. Most arrive without passports to ensure they are not repatriated.

An internet point manager in a part of Rome which has a large immigrant population told the daily Corriere della Sera that since the law came into effect about one in five of those entering the premises had refused to provide identification and left. At the city's biggest internet point, a spokesman was quoted as saying he had lost Italian customers too.

But that was because they used the facilities to visit web sites that were "let us say a bit special". [Rubbish!]

Habib plans tribunal fight for passport

Former Guantanamo Bay detainee Mamdouh Habib will go to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal in a bid to win back his Australian passport.

The Federal Government seized Mr Habib's passport when he returned to Australia last week, after spending more than three years in US custody.

The US released Mr Habib without charged but the Australian Government maintains he is a security threat.

Mr Habib's lawyer, Stephen Hopper, says he is prepared to challenge the Government's case against his client before the tribunal.

"This matter will probably be ventilated before the tribunal," he said.

"We don't want to start a public debate on the reasons until we put our position in the proper forum."

Mossad agents Killing Oz Tourists Steal their Identity to use in terror opps

The fugitive Israeli Mossad intelligence agent Zev Barkan has been dealing with Asian criminal gangs to obtain Australian and other passports stolen from Australians Killed in Asia, a New Zealand security official has said.

Barkan has been named by New Zealand authorities as the kingpin in a passport scam for which two Israelis with Australian links were jailed for six months last week in Auckland.

One of the jailed men, Eli Cara, 50, had his rented home in Turramurra raided by ASIO, [an Australian terrorist organisation], in March. A short time later, he was arrested in New Zealand.

The New Zealand Government has named Barkan, Cara and the other convicted man, Uriel Kelman, as Mossad agents. Barkan fled New Zealand before police swooped.

There are reports that Barkan, allegedly using a fraudulent Canadian passport, has since made visits to North Korea.

The New Zealand official, who has intelligence connections in Asia, said Barkan was connected to an 'Israeli terrorist cell operating out of Thailand'.

"He goes to Laos, Cambodia, Burma and Thailand and deals with gangs that he pays to kill tourists steal their Identity papers passports, most just disappear or their deaths have been reported as accidents, drownings and such, they like to throw their victims off the side of tour boats" said a New Zealand security official Barkan is mostly interested in passports and identity documents, there have been a number of Australian killed for their passports."

Intelligence analysts in New Zealand believe Barkan, a former navy diver in the Israeli IOF, was trying to secure a clean passports for use in Israeli terrorist operations in the region.

Barkan had grown up in Washington as Zev Bruckenstein, where his father was director of religious studies at a synagogue.

A New Zealand security official says his services have uncovered an Israeli operation to create al-Qaeda cells in Thailand. The security official in Thailand said Israeli terrorist are posing as operatives of al-Qaeda.

Over the past nine months we have been investigating eight cases, 11 people informed us of this Israeli operation, asking Thai Landers to join al-Qaeda. One email had, [allegedly], even been signed by the al-Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden, a New Zealand official said. [?]

A New Zealand official said his services had traced back to Israel the phone calls and emails - purportedly from Germany and Lebanon and Pakistan. We investigated the origin of those calls and found out they all came from Israel.

The people the Israelis tried to recruit were then given stolen Australian documents, and received money and weapons. The money was provided by Israel directly to the recruits or was transferred from bank accounts in Jerusalem or Israel, said the New Zealand official.

By the fact...in & of itself...just the facts..?

By the fact itself; "ipso facto, his innocence was established"

By the fact itself; by that very fact: An alien, ipso facto, has no right to a U.S. passport.

[War criminal], Alexander Downer: "Actually, if an Australian - if the Government is involved in a cover-up, then the Government therefore ipso facto must have known about the atrocities.

"How could the Government have known about the atrocities?"

By the fact itself? By that very fact? The Government, ipso facto, has no right to claim it is not responsible for the abuse over the prisoner abuse scandal.

Foreign Minister, [war criminal], Alexander Downer says revelations that an Australian Army officer helped draft a letter on the status of prisoners in Iraq are a desperate attempt to involve the Government in the prisoner abuse scandal.

But Australia is not fit to claim that it does not abuse it's own prisoners and detainees in Australia, including children in detention, so why the claim from this man who says there is some attempt to involve the Government in the prisoner abuse scandal in Iraq.

[War criminal], Prime Minister John Howard's own words,"If you compromise on something that is fundamental you don't win improved behaviour, from people who have misbehaved in the past."

ABC TV's Four Corners revealed last night that Australian lawyer Major George O'Kane helped draft a letter which said some prisoners would not be protected by the Geneva Convention.

Fundamental enough wouldn't you think?

The December 24 letter said the US Army took the legal view that "where absolute military security so requires, security internees will not obtain full Geneva Convention protection".

The letter was signed by the officer in charge of the Abu Ghraib prison, Brigadier General Janis Karpinski.

Downer says Major O'Kane's involvement is not proof that the Government knew of the abuse of prisoners in Iraq.

How do you find proof? You have a letter from an Australian Army Officer dictating the rules of engagement that fall short of the Geneva Convention.

Downer: "I think it just shows how desperate some people are to try to make a link between Australia and the Abu Ghraib atrocities,"

"To suggest that somehow Australia is culpable in this whole exercise because an Australian Major, which is a very junior officer, was involved in some assistance with the drafting, or the full drafting of a letter, that's more over the top than almost any claim I've heard in a long time."

Downer says it is preposterous to suggest the letter means the Australian Government was involved in a cover-up of Iraqi prisoner abuse.

No, it means that the Australian Government has no shame when it comes to prisoner abuse.

The Liberal party think it's fair to abuse people and it does so everyday by keeping it's prisoners and detainees in conditions that are below the survival level. Like cold and hungry, no fresh air or sunlight, solitary confinement, no constructive lifestyle or exercise. We don't have to lay down the proof we have letters from the prisoners and detainees.

Downer: "You're so desperate that in the end you've found somebody who helped draft a letter," he said."[It's] not the person who signed the letter, not the person who was responsible for the letter but out of 50,000 serving personnel in the Australian Defence, [War], Force you can find one who helped draft a letter."

Downer says the Government has taken a lot of "abuse" about the issue.

"The ABC and the Labor Party are essentially making an argument here that somehow there was an Australian involvement in these Abu Ghraib atrocities," Downer said.

"Now, whenever I say that there are sucking in of breath. I'm going to finish this because we've put up with an enormous amount of abuse about this.

"Actually, if an Australian - if the Government is involved in a cover-up, then the Government therefore ipso facto must have known about the atrocities.

"How could the Government have known about the atrocities?"

Excerpts from The Poll Tax: A Dialogue of Political Philosophers

University of Oxford Department for Continuing Education, Undergraduate Philosophy Certificate, Assignment 6 Peter B. Lloyd.

Nozick: It's a social fiction! How would it be, if the majority decided to string the minority up from the gallows? No, Mr Locke, we have inalienable rights by virtue of our being human individuals, and they include the right to life and property. Nobody is entitled to violate those rights and ipso facto no government is entitled to.

Locke: Not so. If people have agreed to be bound by the laws of a government that works for the common good, and if the common good demands that some individuals should lose their property or even life, then so be it.

Mill: Tell me, John, if the common good dictated that, for some reason or other, you personally were to be hanged, would you go to the gallows with a good grace? Would you calmly acknowledge that, as a party to the social compact, you have a duty to place your head obediently in the hangman's noose?

Locke: Do you take me for a fool? I'd apply all my strength and resources to break free, and I'd be reckless what damage I did to save my neck. My political theory claims only that the state may have the right to take property and life from individuals, it does not oblige individuals to succumb willingly. If the state no longer serves a person's interests, then she would be prudent to secede from the social compact and become an outlaw, free of the gains and losses offered, and duties imposed, by the state.

Nozick: I never agreed to this supposed compact. Society had already been constituted for centuries before I was born. I never gave the government a right to take my property.

Locke: Leave it, then. Become an outlaw, or emigrate.

Nozick: My home and family are here. Why should I have to be uprooted to preserve my basic rights?

Locke: By chance you were born in a society whose government was created by a compact which empowers it to tax you. If you don't like it, leave it. If it's difficult to leave it, hard luck.

Nozick: Of practical necessity, I must stay. While I stay, however, I shall lend support to the Community Charge, which is the only equitable way to fund government departments that, like night-watchmen, look after the basic safety and security of our city.

AUSTRALIA: PRISONERS' STRIKE
