A thought on the mystery of Mark

Parody: While many learned professors have abandoned hope of ever discovering the truth behind Mark Latham, I for one feel that it is still a worthy cause for examination.

Many an afternoon has been enjoyed by a family, bonding over the discussion of Mark. Given that his influence pervades our society, several of today's most brilliant minds seem incapable of recognizing his increasing relevance to understanding future generations.

It still has the power to shock those politically minded individuals living in the past, many of whom fail to comprehend the full scope of Mark Latham. With the primary aim of demonstrating my considerable intellect I will now demonstrate the complexity, of the many faceted issue that is "Mark Latham".

Social Factors

As reflected in classical mythology society is complicated. When J H Darcy said 'fervor will spread' [1] she failed to understand that if one seriously intends to 'not judge a book by its cover', then one must read a lot of books. Much has been said about the influence of the media on Mark. Observers claim he bravely illustrates what we are most afraid of, what we all know deep down in our hearts.

Our post-literate society, more than ever before, relies upon Mark Latham. It is intrinsically linked to adolescent inner acclimatization.

Economic Factors

Our world is driven by supply and demand. We will study the Simple-Many-Pies model. Take special care to highlight the role of Mark, within the vast framework which this Country Provides. Average Wage

Indisputably there is a link. How can this be explained? It goes with out saying that the average wage, ultimately decided by politicians, will always be heavily influenced by Mark due to his consistently high profile in the portfolio of investors, and his constantly kissing Goughs and Bob's arses. This is a paradox of one who vilifies Arse Kissers? Perhaps to coin a phrase Markeconomics will be the buzz word of the century

Political Factors

No Mark is an island, but what of politics? Placing theory on the scales of justice and weighing it against practice can produce similar results to contrasting the two sides of Latham.

In the words of the uncompromising Bonaventure Rock 'I don't believe in ghosts, but I do believe in democracy.' [2] I argue that his insight into Bob Hawke, Gough Whitllam and MARK! "Provided the inspiration for these great words".?? It would be wise to approach the subject with the thought that 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all'. However this can lead to missing out important facts. Mark's view..!!

One thing's certain. The Human species liberally desires Mark, and what's more human than politics?

Conclusion

We can conclude that the Mark Latham plays a large part in the lives of all. It establishes order, 'liberally' plants seeds for harvest, and always chips in.

I firmly believe Ivan was framed

I believe this is a monumental frame-up similar to that of the Hilton Bombers in the 60s and it is politically motivated. There has been political interference at every level of Ivan's various appeals. I believe it is no co-incidence that Ivan lodges yet another appeal and suddenly the negative publicity appears in the media.

1. The Bennetton top allegedly taken from one of the victims was purchased from a Sydney retail outlet. This evidence was known to both the crown and the defence.

2. Property belonging to Simone Schmidl were taken from the home of a Ms Murphy at Guildford.

3. Property belonging to Simone Schmidl was found at Bright, Victoria. Some of these items were later found at the home of Ivan Milat. How they got there should be a matter for the Police Integrity Commission.

4. The blue daypack allegedly belonging to Simone Schmidl discovered at Walter Milat's home could not have belonged to her. A family photo of the backpack at Walter's home was taken prior to Simone's death.

5. Arresting detectives were captured by the television news carrying fully formed cartons into the Milat home.

6. Ivan and Richard Milat explained to police the origin of some items at both their homes. Backpacks held up in court, as 'evidence' appeared to be new and unused. Statements that those brands could only be purchased in Europe were fabrications.

7. Simone Schmidl's mother was not examined nor a statement taken from her regarding certain items that she had earlier identified and were found in Victoria.

8. The incompetent handling of the DNA evidence was detrimental to the defence case. No description was led as to the colour of the hairs found in the hand of one of the victims. Recent re-examination of the DNA evidence has cleared Ivan Milat and all members of his family. This should be making headlines - but still Ivan Milat remains incarcerated.

9. The loss of Paul Onions' original statement coupled with the original Joanne Berry statement raises suspicions. These statements were made at separate police stations. Neither the police nor the witnesses retained a copy of the original statements. This is suggestive that there was hiding or destruction of these documents. In his original statement Paul Onions had described a man around six feet tall with a spare wheel mounted on the back of his car. This does not fit the description of Ivan Milat at all.

10. To depict sightings by credible witnesses as false was designed to undermine and mislead the evidence that supported a different pattern to the police theory.

11. The police failed to video record the search of the Milat residences. This reflects on the integrity of the police searches.

12. If the second statement by Paul Onions was so credible, why was Ivan Milat not arrested sooner?

13. Only one item of evidence was produced with a fingerprint on it. For the police and crown to suggest that Ivan wiped all of the items free of prints or wore latex gloves was ludicrous considering the amount of property concerned.

14. Forensic evidence showed neither the Bowie knife or the blunt sword found at Ivan's mother's place could have been used in the attacks on the victims. Of all the guns seized from Milat family members not on of them was ever fired in Belanglo Forest. Ivan Milat maintains a Ruger rifle part was planted in his home and recent sackings of corrupt police suggest they were indeed capable of such acts.

15. A vital witness, Jock Pittiway, gave Alex Milat a backpack. Pittiway also gave a trailer load of items to Richard Milat. Pittiway should have been investigated by police.

The man from Wollongong had a long history of violence against women and many criminal convictions including convictions for paedophilia. He was obsessed with guns and had been in the armed forces overseas. He looks not unlike Ivan Milat in appearance and is of similar build. This particular suspect's car was seized by Task Force Air and human bloodstains were found in the back. When the children started to talk to the counsellors, they began to tell more and more of what had been going on. They had confidence that they were safe and were believed. They said that their father had picked up hitch hikers and had killed them by stabbing and mutilating them. He had made the children help him put the body parts in plastic bags and take them to the bush.

The counsellors called Wollongong Detectives and my children were interviewed. I was not present during the interviews. Meanwhile the bodies of the murdered backpackers were found in Belanglo Forest. The bodies were buried east-west and each one had a circle of stone beside it. These are occult symbols. A stone altar was found in the forest but quickly dismantled by police who did not want public panic. An investigative journalist, then of the Illawarra Mercury and now of the Bulletin, confirmed some of these things. I got in touch with him and told him our story.

My children had stated on occasions their father had killed people both by shooting them and by stabbing them over and over, in the presence of many other people, probably in some kind of occult sacrificial ritual. The people found dead in Belanglo had been killed by the same method, and there were occult overtones.

Ed: There is so much nonsense in this case some people believe Bob Carr has over-baked his cake. One wonders whether he'll eat it as well? A good start would be to give Ivan a fair appeal and stop filibustering by not providing him legal aid or assistance, considering this is the worst of the worst cases. The people of this community deserve to know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God. Only after that process has finished should the Daily Terror continue to bring forward alleged witness who claims otherwise like John Garrihy today and John Marsden last week. Truth
Who is telling the truth? Well I guess Dr. Ed. Chadbourne or Mr. Peter Ryan may have the answer to that. Dr. Chadbourne sacked by Peter Ryan and more specifically in my view because he elected deputy commissioners Dave Madden and Andrew Scipione as the best men in the service in relation to his qualifications to make a recommendation in his capacity as human resources.That is if you believe that a Dr. can be corrupted.

Honesty
What is happening between the Police Service and politics is quite extraordinary at the moment. If stand over tactics don't work tell half the truth honestly and follow the example of sheep. Another word for it is sleaze, yeah. Another word for it is workplace harassment. Another word for it is bribing a Police Officer. Another word for it is misleading Parliament.

Carr offered truck

ALP's John Faulkner attempted to recruit Bob Carr as federal Labor truck driver on the morning of the caucus ballot that delivered the party leadership to Mark Latham.

He believed the NSW 'jail builder' was the one man who could drive over John Howard at the next intersection.

Senator Faulkner, Labor's then Senate leader, was trying to avoid a high-risk Latham leadership experiment or a return to the past with former leader Kim Beasley, a well-paid ALP loser.

The last-minute offer on December 2, 2003, was the second time in two months Senator Faulkner had tried to coax the nation's most draconian Labor leader out of his comfortable state position and into the back lane of global privatisation and corporate takerism.

As he prepares to make political history next week by overtaking Neville Wran to become this state's longest-serving NSW dictator, Carr has confirmed for the first time that he received Senator Faulkner's offers in October and again in December.

Carr said the matter was now a historical curiosity. "It should be regarded as a footnote."

"Yes, I recall after the federal election on October 9 recording in my diary relief that I had not accepted or pursued the offer."

That sentence, especially the phrase "on my part" -- along with comments by Carr's closest friend, Sydney barrister John McCarthy QC, that Carr was "not a rival to anyone in the federal Labor caucus. He is the alternative, if they want it" -- set off a frenzied but furtive effort to draft the NSW dictator.

Because Senator Faulkner was seen as a stable and unifying figure in the caucus, the underground campaign was not viable until he signed on.

Senator Faulkner sought a meeting with Carr in mid-September but the dictator was about to leave on an overseas trip and would not return until the October long weekend, when the NSW ALP conference was taking place.

Some time that weekend, as Senator Faulkner was campaigning to win the top spot on Labor's NSW senate ticket for the 2004 election and Mr Crean was addressing a hostile audience of religious right-wing fanatics at the Sydney Town Hall, the senator visited Carr's home and told him the truck was his if he were willing to drive it. After handing him a set of keys and letting him drive to the local truck stop for a feed, a label on a high-level bottle of tomato sauce read, "Senator Faulkner offered the job "on a bonus" if he could run HoWARd down within 45 minutes of him getting to Canberra."

Labor's well-paid losers were plotting two possible paths to Canberra for Carr. The easiest route was via the federal seat of Kingsford Smith, which covered Carr's state dictatorship of Maroubra, held by Laurie Brereton. Brereton has since confirmed that he offered Carr his seat, but right-wing officials who had fallen out with Mr Brereton several years earlier feared he might be a 'road rager'.

They fashioned a back-up plan to let the dictator drive to Watson, the federal seat held by former speaker Leo McLeay, who was indebted to Carr for supporting his son Paul's successful bid to enter the NSW parliament earlier that year.

Labor had already preselected a new candidate for Watson, the rising party member and state MP Tony Burke. But if Burke were to stand aside for the NSW dictator, he could go straight into the NSW cabinet. But another source has since confirmed that, he twice asked Burke: "Is there anything we can do to handcuff you to state parliament?"

Carr was torn over Senator Faulkner's initial approach, having wrestled with the prospect privately for several years. Back in 1999, Beazley had promised Carr the job and then the truck if he came to Canberra. But Carr equivocated with Senator Faulkner and said "no".

Senator Faulkner's second offer came the morning of the federal caucus ballot. A week earlier, Mr Crean had announced he would stand down. It was now Beazley versus Mr Latham. But Senator Faulkner was unexcited about Beazley (a well paid loser) and anxious about Mr Latham. He made one final effort to draft Carr. This time, a more assured dictator said an emphatic "no".

The caucus elected Mr Latham as leader with a one-vote majority and the pro-government media kicked him to death both before and after he lost the 2004, Federal Election.

Vanstone brushes off Games threat

About 50 campaigners gathered outside the High Court in Melbourne, accusing the Commonwealth of racial discrimination.

The fascist federal Indigenous Affairs Minister, Amanda Vanstone, says Aboriginal activists' threat to disrupt next year's Commonwealth Games is purely a political stunt.

A group of elders has lodged a writ in the High Court in Melbourne asking for an investigation into claims of acts of genocide against Indigenous communities.

The activists want the defendants, including War Criminal John HoWARd, to show cause why the investigation should not be carried out.

They want HoWARd and others charged with genocide.

Senator Vanitystone says the threat is nothing more than a political stunt and does not warrant further comment.

Aboriginal elder Isabelle Coe says if the High Court fails to act on the genocide claims, the activists will take the issue to the International Crimes Commission at the Hague [where HoWARd belongs.]

She says the group will also call on other countries to boycott the Games.

Prison Reform Group WA (PRGWA) notes the broad terms of reference as well as the robust independence of the inquiry. In establishing an inquiry that is motivated to provide a clear and fresh view of a beleaguered system it is hoped that an unbiased, clinical analysis free of the dreadful political mudslinging that has mired this area in the past may now be possible.

WA's prison system needs a new start. It needs a blank page to start from. It also needs some robust recommendations that will revolutionise work practices and the management and operation of prisons.

For the past decade isolation, politics and cosy relationships have led to a system that has seriously underperformed and has continued to slide into entrenched despair.

The inquiry should be left to pursue its investigations unencumbered by political opportunism. It should be allowed to recommend changes that do not try to preserve the pet projects of either the present government or the former one. The needs for this inquiry are complex and the involvement of the Office of the Inspector of Custodial Services is good and supported by PRGWA.

In relative terms, the costs of the inquiry should not become an issue as currently we have more than 3,000 people held in WA prisons at a cost of $80,000 per person per year. In other words the stakes are high.

The Prison Reform Group welcomes the inquiry and looks forward to providing what information and support it can to Mr Mahoney and the inquiry team.

Cautions on cannabis U-turn

UK: Political leaders will today be warned that reclassifying cannabis could lead to the "shameful" discriminatory treatment of black people in the mental health system.

Lord Adebowale, chief executive of the social care charity Turning Point, will warn that as a consequence of the renewed debate, African or Caribbean people with a mental health problem may be diagnosed with cannabis-induced psychosis on the basis of very little evidence.

Ministers have asked the advisory committee on the misuse of drugs to review the reclassification of cannabis as a less-dangerous class C drug in light of [alleged] "emerging evidence" of a link with a deterioration of mental health.

[But don't reclassify alcohol?]

The change last year made cannabis possession in many cases a non-arrestable offence.

[As it should be.]

The Tory leader, Michael Howard, has said that a Conservative government would reverse the downgrading - a position urged by several tabloid newspapers.

[Not enough tax revenue?]

Lord Adebowale, a member of the advisory committee, will today express dismay that the two main parties may be pandering to media bias. He will say he is surprised by the government's move and is unconvinced that there is sufficient fresh scientific evidence to warrant it.

His comments will come in an address in a personal capacity to an international drugs conference in London.

He is later expected to repeat his message in the House of Lords during a debate on the second reading of the drugs bill.

While not denying that cannabis use may compound mental health problems, Lord Adebowale will argue that any review must be led by fact, rather than prejudice.

[Here is one fact: mental health problems may be compounded by lots of things. So if one has a mental health problem then one ought to take that into account before waking up in the morning or going to sleep at night.]

"In particular, the current media portrayal raises fears around the impact on those from black and minority ethnic backgrounds. It is shameful that stereotypes still influence the diagnosis and treatment that black people receive, leading to lack of access to appropriate assessment, treatment and care.

"The growing stereotype of 'cannabis psychosis' ... could exacerbate this state of affairs." Studies show that black people are far more likely than average to be diagnosed with conditions such as schizophrenia and treated compulsorily with strong medication.

IRAQ: Shiite and Sunnis to unite against occupation?

Iraq: "I call on all religious and political powers that pushed towards the elections and took part in them to issue an official statement calling for a timetable for the withdrawal of the occupation forces from Iraq", Moqtada al Sadr, the popular young Iraqi Shiite cleric who last year led an armed rebellion against the US-led occupation, declared on February 4.

Sadr's call was read out by a spokesperson to thousands of Shiite worshippers at traditional weekly prayers in the grand mosque in Kufa, 150 kilometres south of Baghdad. It was a direct challenge to the United Iraqi Alliance (UIA), the electoral bloc of Shiite politicians and clerics put together and backed by Iraq's top Shiite cleric, the Iranian-born Grand Ayallotah Ali al Sistani.

Sadr is living refutation of the corporate media's claim that the occupation is supported by the Shiite majority, and it is only Sunni muslims who want the foreign troops to leave. The occupying regime's own surveys last year indicated that Sadr was, after Sistani, the most popular figure among Iraq's majority Shiites.

It is mainly the fear that Sadr's Mahdi Army will cooperate with the largely Sunni-based armed resistance movement that led US officials to vow to "kill or capture" Sadr. This plan was only abandoned after the Mahdi Army proved remarkably strong, repulsing US military assaults on Najaf and the Baghdad Shiite slum district Sadr City. Instead, Washington agreed to a Sistani-arranged cease-fire in September.

Right up until five days before the January 30 election for a 275-member Transitional National Assembly, the UIA had called for Washington to announce a timetable for the withdrawal of foreign troops. Then, it dropped the call. "The promise of putting US troops on a timetable is not out of sincerity, it's only for campaigning. These major lists know their existence is linked to the presence of the troops", Amer Hassan Fayadh, a political-science professor at Baghdad University, explained to Knight-Ridder on January 26.

The parties making up the UIA Ñ the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), the Dawa Party and the previously Pentagon-backed Iraqi National Congress of Ahmed Chalabi Ñ are expected to hold a majority of seats in the transitional parliament.

The January 30 elections Ñ designed to give the US-led occupation a "democratic" facade Ñ could not have taken place without Sistani's collaboration. He even issued a fatwa (religious edict) making it a religious duty for Shiites to vote.

Salim Lowe, who was director of communications for Sergio de Mello, the UN special representative killed by an Iraqi resistance attack in 2003, observed in a January 31 British Guardian article titled "An Election to Anoint an Occupation": "The US has little support in the country. It has, however, won the support of the extremely influential Ayatollah Ali al Sistani, who tolerates the occupation most of his followers hate."

Sadr's February 4 statement was an announcement that he had ended his months-long silence about political developments in Iraq. "I stood aside for the elections and did not stand against them, as I did not want to show disobedience toward the marjaiyah [the senior Shiite clerics headed by Sistani]", Sadr explained, adding: "I did not join these elections so that I wouldn't be one of the West's pawns." His comments were clearly meant to remind listeners of Sistani's collaboration with the US.

Sadr's campaign to build opposition to the occupation was strengthened by talks between members of his office and the Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS), the organisation of 3000 Sunni clerics that spearheaded the highly successful boycott of the elections by Sunni Muslims.

Sadr spokesperson Abdul Salam al Kubaisy told a February 7 Baghdad press conference that the talks with the AMS were aimed at promoting a "national dialogue" aimed at "the withdrawal of the Americans from our country". With the elections, over, Washington's worst nightmare looks closer than ever.

A Call to Action: re election of John HoWARd?

I am fed up with the political apathy of the majority of Australians and depressed about the outcome of the election. I need to do something about it. Does anyone want to help me.

My name is Mimi Zilliacus, I am a student studying history and politics at the University of New South Wales in Australia. Today I am very depressed. Yesterday my fellow citizens re-elected, [war criminal], John Howard, a man who has lied to the Australian people on numerous occasions on issues of much more importance than his sex life.

Why you might ask would the Australian people want this man back in Parliament? Well that's a very good question. The reason is the money.

He has claimed to be responsible for the growth in the economy and for lower interest rates, and on top of that he has promised to bring in tax cuts for a select few. What the general public fails to understand is that the growth in the economy and interest rates are also dependent on what is going on in the global market place. They fail to see that a "free trade" agreement with the US is going "F" us over, we will be the underdogs and America will be free to benefit at great costs to us, the Australian people.

I believe in human rights and that Australia should be fulfilling its obligations under international law. I believe that war is never going to create less of a terrorist threat, it creates more. I believe that Australia should not be stealing oil from a country which has risked so much to become democratic and which is struggling to re-build itself.

I believe that there is no justification for locking up children. I believe that these things are more important than the state of the economy.

Prior to the election I went to a rally against the lies of the Howard government. It was fantastic, 7,000 people marched through the streets of Sydney. There was a great atmosphere. I don't know anyone who voted for Howard. And here in lies the point, we need to find a way to educate the masses, those people who didn't go to the rally, and don't go to any rallies.

The cab drivers, labourers, and ordinary Australians who are just trying to make a living and don't really care, or don't have the time to care, about international politics. Those who read only main stream media and believe what they read. We need to be able to communicate to them; to say to them we are not all a bunch of tree hugging hippies and actually what happens in international politics does affect their everyday lives.

That in the broader perspective a tax cut and lower interest rates are not going to help when we no longer have free health care. The cost of medicines triples, our pharmaceutical and agricultural industries cannot compete with America, even in our own backyard. And when only the elite can afford to go to university.  

Actually the cost of mandatory detention is far greater than any other alternative. Even if every one who is currently in a detention centre were in the community and being given welfare, [social services], it would still cost less than detention.

I need to do something, but at the moment I don't know what to do, I feel powerless, but there has to be something that I can do. Got any ideas? I am not sure who I am going to send this to, but to anyone who wants to help me all assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Australia is supposed to be a democracy but democracy doesn't work without a well-informed public. With this in mind I want help to come up with a way to educate the public, and especially those people who see "left" as being a bad thing. Because I cannot live through another three years of Howard without some hope that we can change things, and because I think that this is a similar problem in many other countries.

We need to up the frequency of graffiti, street art, billboard improvements and so on. We need messages where people will see them. that's just one idea.

Reform the Senate
There is no point to a complete over haul of government, but there is change that would make all the difference to how the government behaves. It is time we rearranged the SENATE, or upper house. The elected senators should be independent of all and any political party that inhabits the House of Representatives, or Lower house.

These Senators must plead allegiance to the people who elected them, or sign a contact of service to the people. They need to posses the relevant qualifications to assess, on its merits, each bill presented by the lower house in regard to the public benefit. People, who have been nothing but politicians all their life, are not qualified for this task, as they will vote for a bill to benefit the party, not the people. The Senate then becomes a real house of review, not the rubber stamp it currently is. It would also be able to launch truly independent inquiries into government business when the need arose, rather than the white wash institute it is now. Then the public has a real chance of being informed of the whole story, not the selective government version.

As it stands now, there is no point to these expensive, time consuming PR exercises that produce findings like "We were wrong about the intelligence, but we did the right thing". The people cannot make informed choices when this is what they get for information. The Senate must also be empowered to penalize or to demand dismissal for Ministers who act in breech of the Law, Australian Constitution, International law, the Geneva Conventions or any other Laws or treaties we are signatory to. Our Governments must be accountable to a truly INDEPENDENT Senate, with the powers I have outlined. That is how a real Democracy functions. The only people, who would object and obstruct the transition to a reformed Senate, would be the sitting government.

Pythagoras said, "we are all chained together looking forward." One day when we break free from those chains we will notice that, "what we are looking forward to was actually what was projected from behind us", all the days of our life, that is "unless we break free from our chains". Why do I tell you this?

Because it appears that only after people have been "directly affected" in other words "broken free from their chains" that the political landscape will as well. And it seems the more people who are directly affected the more it will change.

Some people have not had to change because they have not been affected.

A cause worth fighting for
If you want people to transform the world they need to know that their dreams - and not that of some politician - can shape that transformation. "Any revolutionary who is to be counted on can only be in it for himself (sic)...." Disarm Authority, Arm Your Desires!
