Australian Government couldn't possibly save Nguyen Van

Australian Government did not anticipate the reaction against Singapore hanging - a problem for Howard he had to impugne the rise of a moral movement.

Howard government had no intention to save the life of hapless Australian held in Singapore Nguyen Van for stupidly acting as drug mule. It appears the situation caused a public relations problem for Howard and his cabinet and behind the scene string pullers, it shifted out of control with increasing public interest in commendable moral basis to save this man. It is very clear the Australian government does not value life. Anyone that was taken in by public relations attempts by Howard and Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer was duped.

The legislation past few years of Howard and so called main opposition party both push anti liberty pathway - shows their real character is abuse of Australians, evidence the in your face detention camps, ignoring voice of protests for military in Iraq, affairs of refugee vessels the Tampa affair show us the value for life is minimal. The present course is to remove your rights with Hitler like power of anti-terrorism laws that trample civil rights should be sufficient to show you Howard's and complicit Beazley's hand in the dangerous direction Australia is going. The Howard government attacks ordinary Australian in the workplace with IR laws aimed to destroy your wages and conditions.

The disclosure of Singapore lawyer M. Ravi, a brave lawyer leads a campaign in ordered Singapore against the death penalty. A country that it seems almost leads the world in the per capita executions - heard on ABC radio Late Night Live. Ravi voiced amazement at the Australian government seeking legal opinion of Cambridge lawyer that any appeal by Australia with the International Criminal Court of Justice is pointless to attempt to help to save the life of Nguyen Van. Ravi's disclosure confirms Australian government deliberately had worked with the Singapore government to frame a lost position so interpretion such path would be fruitless effort to save Nguyen Van's life.

The sorry evidence is Howard government and the similar Labor party shares an agenda of wrongdoing. If death sentence seen weakened by public opinion to overturn or prevent the death mandated by government would set back the radical plan of both compromised political parties to change this country. Howard wants to be seen as caring leader whilst compromising life of his own people. Make no mistake the Australian government seeks to ignore the voice of the electorate whilst appearing to do its best for you.

This action equates to the worst of crime where representative government misleads what harm it actually lies about to wound and risk the life of its own citizens. David Hicks languishing under US control for unproven crimes is another fearful example of the real offensive face of Australian politics. The deliberate compromise to reveal the Bali drug nine to the brunt of unjust Indonesian justice system shows you malice and contempt the Australian government has toward the population. Being aware of campaign and insanity in Canberra allows you to interpret assertions by Howard et al for what lies and danger they are to this nation.

Cosmetics firm targets UK market - Lack of regulation puts users at risk

UK: A Chinese cosmetics company is using skin harvested from the corpses of executed convicts to develop beauty products for sale in Europe.

Agents for the firm have told would-be customers it is developing collagen for lip and wrinkle treatments from skin taken from prisoners after they have been shot. The agents say some of the company's products have been exported to the UK, and that the use of skin from condemned convicts is "traditional" and nothing to "make such a big fuss about".

With European regulations to control cosmetic treatments such as collagen not expected for several years, doctors and politicians say the discovery highlights the dangers faced by the increasing number of Britons seeking to improve their looks. Apart from the ethical concerns, there is also the potential risk of infection.

MPs on the Commons select health committee are to examine the regulatory system and may launch an investigation and question ministers about the need for immediate new controls. "I am sure that the committee will want to look at this," said Kevin Barron, its Labour chairman. "This is something everyone in society will be very concerned about."

Plastic surgeons are also concerned about the delay in introducing regulations to control the cosmetic treatments industry. Norman Waterhouse, a former president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, said: "I am surprised that we are taking the lead from the European commission, because this is bound to delay action on this important area which is increasingly a matter for concern. It seems like a bit of a cop out to me."

It is unclear whether any of the "aesthetic fillers" such as collagen available in the UK or on the internet are supplied by the company, which cannot be identified for legal reasons. It is also unclear whether collagen made from prisoners' skin is in the research stage or is in production. However, the company has exported collagen products to the UK in the past. An agent told customers it had also exported to the US and European countries, and that it was trying to develop fillers using tissue from aborted foetuses.

Traditional

When formally approached the agent denied the company was using skin harvested from executed prisoners. However, he had already admitted it was doing precisely this during a number of conversations with a researcher posing as a Hong Kong businessman. The Press Complaints Commission's code of practice permits subterfuge if there is no other means of investigating a matter of public interest.

The agent told the researcher: "A lot of the research is still carried out in the traditional manner using skin from the executed prisoner and aborted foetus." This material, he said, was being bought from "bio tech" companies based in the northern province of Heilongjiang, and was being developed elsewhere in China.

He suggested that the use of skin and other tissues harvested from executed prisoners was not uncommon. "In China it is considered very normal and I was very shocked that western countries can make such a big fuss about this," he said. Speaking from his office in northern China, he added: "The government has put some pressure on all the medical facilities to keep this type of work in low profile."

The agent said his company exported to the west via Hong Kong. "We are still in the early days of selling these products, and clients from abroad are quite surprised that China can manufacture the same human collagen for less than 5% of what it costs in the west." Skin from prisoners used to be even less expensive, he said. "Nowadays there is a certain fee that has to be paid to the court."

The agent's admission comes after an inquiry into the cosmetic surgery industry in Britain, commissioned by the Department of Health, pointed to the need for new regulations controlling collagen treatments. Sir Liam Donaldson, the chief medical officer, has highlighted the inquiry's concerns about the use of cadavers for cosmetic treatments. "Cosmetic procedures are a rapidly growing area of private health care," he said. "We must ensure we properly protect patients' safety by improving the training and regulation."

The DoH has agreed to the inquiry's recommendations, but is waiting for the European commission to draw up proposals for laws governing cosmetic products. It could be several years before this legislation takes force.

Meanwhile, cosmetic treatments, including those with aesthetic fillers, are growing rapidly in popularity, with around 150,000 injections or implants administered each year in the UK. Lip enhancement treatments are one of the most popular, costing an average of £170.

Some fillers are made from cattle or pig tissue, and others from humans. The DoH believes that there may be a risk of transmission of blood-borne viruses and even vCJD from collagen containing human tissue. Although there is as yet no evidence that this has happened, the inquiry found that some collagen injections had triggered inflammatory reactions causing permanent discomfort, scarring and disfigurement. In their report, the inquiry team said that if there was a risk, "action should be taken to protect patient safety through regulation".

While new regulations are to be drawn up, the department is currently powerless to regulate most human-tissue fillers intended for injection or implant, as they occupy a legal grey area. Most products are not governed by regulations controlling medical products, as they are not classified as medicines. They also escape cosmetics regulations, which only apply to substances used on the surface of the skin and not those injected beneath it. The Healthcare Commission is planning new regulations for cosmetic surgery clinics next year, but these will not control the substances used by plastic surgeons.

Hand transplants

A number of plastic surgeons have said that they have been hearing rumours about the use of tissue harvested from executed prisoners for several years.

Peter Butler, a consultant plastic surgeon and government adviser, said there had been rumours that Chinese surgeons had performed hand transplants using hands from executed prisoners. One transplant centre was believed to be adjacent to an execution ground. "I can see the utility of it, as they have access and no ethical objection," he said. "The main concern would be infective risk."

Andrew Lee of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, who has visited China to examine transplant techniques, said he had heard similar rumours.

Manufacturers of aesthetic fillers said they had seen Chinese collagen products on sale at trade fairs, but had not seen any labelled Chinese-made in the UK. Dan Cohen, whose US-based company, Inamed, produces collagen products, said: "We have come across Chinese products in the market place. But most products from China are being sold 'off-label' or are being imported illegally."

In China, authorities deny that prisoners' body parts are harvested without their consent. However, there is some evidence to suggest it may be happening.

In June 2001, Wang Guoqi, a Chinese former military physician, told US congressmen he had worked at execution grounds helping surgeons to harvest the organs of more than 100 executed prisoners, without prior consent. The surgeons used converted vans parked near the execution grounds to begin dissecting the bodies, he told the house international relations committee's human rights panel.

Skin was said to be highly valued for the treatment of burn victims, and Dr Wang said that in 1995 he skinned a shot convict's body while the man's heart was still beating. Dr Wang, who was seeking asylum in the US, also alleged that corneas and other body tissue were removed for transplant, and said his hospital, the Tianjin paramilitary police general brigade hospital, sold body parts for profit.

Human rights activists in China have repeatedly claimed that organs have been harvested from the corpses of executed prisoners and sold to surgeons offering transplants to fee-paying foreigners.

Dr Wang's allegations infuriated the Chinese authorities, and in a rare move officials publicly denounced him as a liar. The government said organs were transplanted from executed prisoners only if they and their family gave consent.

Although the exact number of people facing the death penalty in China is an official secret, Amnesty International believes around 3,400 were executed last year, with a further 6,000 on death row.

What is it?

Collagen is a major structural protein found in abundance in skin, bones, tendons and other connective tissue. Matted sheets of collagen give skin its toughness and by winding into molecular "cables", it adds strength to tendons.

What is it used for?

Collagen injections are used in cosmetic surgery to plump up lips and flatten out wrinkles. After botox, collagen injections are the second-most popular cosmetic operations in Britain. Collagen does not have a permanent effect and several injections are often needed.

What else is it good for?

Collagen was being put to good use as far back as the stone age. Neolithic cave dwellers around the Dead Sea are believed to have used it as a primitive form of glue some 8,000 years ago. More recently, researchers have developed a form that can be poured or injected into wounds to seal them.

Where does it come from?

A number of sources. Some companies extract it from cow skin and treat it to minimise the risk of allergic reactions or infection. Others collect it from human donors or extract cells from the patient before growing the necessary amount in a laboratory.

Is it safe?

Collagen can cause allergic reactions if it has not been treated correctly, and there is a theoretical risk of disease being passed on. A small amount of collagen is often injected into the skin a few weeks before treatment to test for possible allergic reactions. Earlier this year, Sir Liam Donaldson warned that collagen injections could spread conditions such as hepatitis and variant CJD, the human form of mad cow disease.

Another terrorism attack occurred in Australia on Sept 6, with NSW police bringing a large part of Tweed Heads to a standstill on September 5, according to ABC News Online.

Dozens of businesses were evacuated, roads were closed for 7 hours, more than 100 workers were forced to leave their offices and traffic was diverted for most of the day.

The suspect device turned out to be harmless.

'Obviously it is a different society at the moment and we have to take every threat seriously and investigate it fully,' said a police spokesperson.

'Even in Tweed Heads,' he could have added.

The Sydney Morning Herald of September 6 reports the extraordinary story of a police officer who deliberately broke the speed limit and used emergency lights and sirens so that he could drive a Kangaroos footballer, Saverio Rocca, to Telstra Dome for a match.

The police officer drove Mr Rocca to the match, leaving his wife, Rose, at hospital and about to give birth to the couple's second child.

Mr Rocca replied to allegations of police driving, using headlights or speeding by saying that 'I didn't think it was such a big deal.'

A Northern Territory coroner has blamed police for the death of woman, according to the September 5 Advertiser.

The coroner found that police had failed to enforce a restraining order against the woman's former partner.

As a result, the 21 year old was bashed to death by her boyfriend, despite taking out a non-contact domestic violence order against him.

Coroner Greg Cavanagh said police should have arrested Ms Millar's partner when he beat her up the day before, in breach of the restraint order.

The coroner said that 'The evidence in this case reveals that the actions of police were simply not good enough.'

Moira Rayner is a disgraced former corruption commissioner. She disgraced herself when she tipped off a friend about an investigation into his illegal activities. Now she is being investigated as to whether the tip-off was criminal, according to The Australian of September 6.

Ms Rayner, who was the acting commissioner of the Corruption and Crime Commission in Western Australia, resigned on August 16 after admitting the tip-off.

The tip off to her friend, Mr Marquet (formerly one of WA's top public servants) came when he was facing charges on 55 counts of corruption, drug possession and the theft of $227,000.

Police chiefs in Belfast are getting pissed of at Australia's attempts to poach Irish police officers, as Australians no longer want to join the boys and girls in blue.

Ralph Nader wrote an article expressing outrage at Karl Rove conducting his political activities at taxpayer expense. I am much more outraged at the CIA spending my tax money to kill and torture leftists like myself. I am much more outraged at the US military spreading radioactive depleted uranium all over the planet, bringing cancers and birth defects to millions of children for generations to come.

I am very angry about wars of naked aggression against innocent people for the profit of a few capitalists, conducted under an umbrella of lies and distortions parroted by the corporate media. The immorality of Karl Rove cannot compare in magnitude to the immorality of the whole Bush administration or to that of the capitalist system itself, which is the main cause of this continuing series of wars.

The obvious motivation for the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame by the Bush administration is revenge for her husband, Joseph Wilson, exposing one of Bush's many lies for the Iraq war, i.e., the lie about Iraq trying to purchase yellow cake uranium from Niger.

If leftists use this affair as merely a technique for bringing to light some of the really egregious crimes of the Bush administration, then perhaps, there is some validity in pursuing this course of action. In actuality, the most immoral crimes of the Nixon administration were not the burglary at the Watergate hotel or the subsequent cover-up, but rather the continuation of the Vietnam war, the secret bombing of Cambodia, the overthrow of the democratic leftist government of Salvador Allende in Chile and the CIA and FBI repression of antiwar activists and members of the American Indian Movement and Black Panthers in the United States

At the Nuremberg trials for Nazi war criminals, the principal crime they were accused of by prosecutor Robert Jackson was that of aggressive war, from which most all the other crimes of the Nazis followed.

The Nazis used lies for all their aggressions too, one of which ironically was terrorism in other countries. Sound familiar?

They also concocted faked incidents for their invasions. The Nazis dressed prisoners in Polish uniforms and had them attack a German radio station at Gleiwitz close to the Polish border and blamed the attack on Poland, giving them the needed excuse for the planned invasion of Poland.

Naturally, all the prisoners were slaughtered, leaving no witnesses to the faked incident, except the SS themselves. How many incidents involving gross deception have we been exposed to by the US government-the Jessica Lynch rescue, the pulling down of Saddam Hussein's statue, 9-11 itself, or the assassinations of the Kennedys and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?

If justice ever prevails, there should be a second Nuremberg trial for all those involved intimately in these recent wars of aggression in Afghanistan and Iraq. I knew that lies would be used to justify these wars by inductive reasoning from the past history of warfare, but that is not absolute scientific proof.

However, we now have written evidence from the war planning described in the documents of the Project for the New American Century and the description of the intelligence manipulation in the Downing Street Memo, which indeed prove these wars were carefully planned acts of aggression against other nations.

The Nazi foreign minister Ribbentrop was hung at Nuremberg. Surely that means that all foreign policy advisors to George W. Bush should be held responsible as well as Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice.

The heads of the German General Staff, Keitel and Jodl, were hung at Nuremberg. That would indicate that some top Pentagon generals involved in these wars of aggression should be charged as well. Nazi ideologues like Alfred Rosenberg and Julius Streicher were hung. Surely all propagandists for these wars in Iraq and Afghanistan should be punished. Hans Frank, the governor of Poland, and Fritz Sauckel, the head of concentration camps and slave labor were hung for crimes against humanity.

Those responsible for the administration of Iraq and the concentration camps there and at Guantanamo would seem to fit a similar description of criminality. Hitler, Eva Braun and Goebbels and his family committed suicide in Berlin and Himmler and Goering took cyanide capsules after their capture, thus escaping public accountability, except for Goering who took the cyanide in his prison cell at Nuremberg. German capitalists such as Alfried Krupp, who financed Hitler and profited from the war, were given prison sentences. American capitalists profiting from the present wars in Iraq and Afghanistan should be tried on similar grounds.

Considering the seeming lackadaisical attitude of the American people towards anything but their own personal happiness, I doubt if George W. Bush and the other criminals will ever be tried for their crimes, except by a higher power, if there is a hereafter.

As for all the Christian American citizens, who believe that George W. Bush is pursuing a moral course in the world, will they be similar to the German citizens who believed their country had done no wrong in World War 2 and had to be dragged off to the concentration camps by American soldiers to view some of the evil done by the Nazis?

When the American empire finally collapses, as history indicates it must, will Americans use the same excuses as the Germans? Those excuses include just doing their duty, being patriotic and only following orders. They may claim they thought all critics of US policies were just crazy leftist conspiracy theorists, whose ideas were not worthy of serious consideration.

I know that there are those who will complain that there is no comparison between the magnitude of the crimes committed by the Nazis and those committed so far by the Bush administration. This is true. Tens of millions of people perished in World War 2.

However, an estimated 100,000 civilians have been killed in Iraq and tens of thousands in Afghanistan. Thousands of tons of radioactive uranium have been spread across the surface of the planet.

These are in no way insignificant crimes. Even the Nazis did not use radioactive substances, although I am sure they would have if given the opportunity. They wanted to depopulate a large area of the Soviet Union to rid the area of the "inferior" Slavs and give lebensraum or living room to millions of Germans. There are captured Nazi documents where they discuss this mass murder as if they were discussing the weather.

Imperialists always act the same way, valuing the acquisition of great wealth over human life. They gave smallpox-infested blankets to the Native Americans to decimate their numbers. They had enough African slaves to do the work and the Native Americans were simply in the way.

Considering the US military's use of radioactive uranium, one wonders if the people of Iraq and other nations aren't simply in the way of the acquisition of their oil wealth by American and British corporations.

Certainly, the health, life span and progeny of people in these oil-rich regions will be affected for generations to come by this radioactive warfare. However, labor is super plentiful in the world at present.

I believe that since the US government has waged wars of aggression based on a pack of lies that they should be subjected to the same laws that the Nazis faced at Nuremberg.

Unfortunately, what constitutes justice seems to an entirely subjective matter, determined either by the victors in war or by the militarily most powerful country on earth. Justice is either impartial and objective, or it isn't true justice.

The present system makes a mockery of international law and a criminal court which can't prosecute the strongest, but most persistent and immoral, of all the violators of human rights and law.

In such an environment, all countries will want nuclear weapons because they realize that in a chaotic environment, only strength and not law will really matter. While the US continues the further development of more sophisticated nuclear weapons and weapons on space-based satellites and thumbs its nose at disarmament treaties, global warming treaties and treaties banning biological weapons and land mines, the farce of their supposed commitment to the rule of law is fully exposed. This is truly a very dangerous moment in human history.

A confused morality among the American people does not help.
