Accused of failing to tell police about a new job, which may have brought him into contact with children.However, defence counsel Mark Gunning told the court his client was not employed by the company, and therefore did not inform police.Ferguson was trying to earn a living as an independent contractor in a place where he thought he could get on with his life. The allegation? He dropped off a cleaning pamplet at a school trying to earn a living.
Dennis has said all along that his conviction in QLD was wrong and maintains his innocence. But did anyone investigate his claim? Juries get it wrong. Noble Cause Corruption? Sorry but I smell a rat in this case!
Dennis who moved to Sydney in May has been denied bail. Under the New South Wales Child Protection Vilification Act he was required to register his personal details with police.However, Magistrate Graham Johnson refused bail, saying, "People involved in sex offences against children are often repeat offenders. It may be a coincidence he went to a public school, but it is a matter of concern."
He added it was not an easy task weighing the conflicting interests of community safety and Ferguson's general right to Liberty.
Since then police allege he has undertaken work with a company that sells cleaning products to community groups including charities and schools.
The 55-year-old denies the charge of failing to notify of any change to his employment status, arguing that he had not reached a final agreement with the company and therefore did not consider himself employed.
Ferguson applied for bail but Magistrate Graham Johnston refused, saying protection of the community was more important in this situation.
New South Wales police Detective Inspector Bob Sullivan, manager of the sex crime squad from the Child Protection Unit, says police treat these types of offences very seriously.
"It's part of our charter to monitor people on the child protection register, the register being part of the sex crimes and child protection squad and it has been very successful as far as we are concerned resulting in an arrest," he said.

Australian Institute of CriminologyThis report, which was prepared by the Australian Institute of Criminology for the Office of the Status of Women, reviews the international literature on recidivism rates and the risk factors that predict sexual, violent and general reoffending, and identifies a number of specific predictors of sexual reoffending.
The report then analyses Victorian police data on persons apprehended for sexual assault of adults in 2001, finding that 14% of alleged offenders had previously been apprehended for sexual offences, 35% of the sample had been processed for multiple sexual offences, and a large percentage had also been apprehended for violent (35%) and other (55%) offences during the reference period.
Finally, the report provides an overview of sex offender treatment programs offered through corrective services in Australian jurisdictions, and summarises the literature that assesses the efficacy of sex offender treatment programs.
