Stop The War Coalition

Stop the War Coalition condemns Howard's Terror Australis

In the early hours of Tuesday 8 November, raids involving over 400 police, helicopters, ambulance and fire brigades were made on homes in Sydney and Melbourne.

Men charged with 'terrorism offences' were shackled and dressed in the same orange jumpsuits used by the tortured prisoners held in Guantanamo Bay. The raids were carried out as Prime Minister John Howard, citing 'intelligence' about an imminent terrorist attack in Australia, tried to win support for more draconian 'anti-terror' laws.

Together with troop deployments around the world, these actions are seen as necessary for Australia's participation in the 'war on terror'. [Scapegoats to bolster support and quell dissent for the Coalition of the Killings resource wars in the Middle East.]

But this so-called 'war on terror' is a farce. Not only is it being used as a justification for expensive and deadly military adventurism, but it is also providing an excuse to silence democratic dissenting voices and a smokescreen for distasteful policies at home, such as changes to the IR system.

It has created an unnecessary climate of fear, legitimized selective policing and Muslim vilification, encouraged trial by embedded media, and undermined basic human rights including the presumption of innocence.

We are being asked to trust that Howard and Ruddock are acting in our interests and believe that police and security forces know best and never make mistakes or abuse their powers.

But we remember the children overboard scandal, the SIEV X disaster, the claims of Iraq's WMDs made from uranium sourced in Niger and deployable in 45 minutes, and the deportation of US peace activist Scott Parkin. We know that 100,000 men, women and children in Iraq have paid with their lives for the stuff-ups and lies of the Howard government and its intelligence operatives.

We also know that if the Howard government is serious about stopping terrorism it would cease its perpetration of and support for state terrorism in Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan. After all, if Australia is at greater risk of a terrorist attack, it is because of the foreign policies of the Howard government.

For its part, the Stop the War Coalition will continue to expose and resist the underlying agenda of the 'war on terror'. We will keep speaking out against the unjust and injurious actions of our government and military forces and will not be cowed by sedition laws.

We will continue to join people around the world in working to end the military and economic occupation of Iraq, demand that Australian troops be brought home, and support those resisting occupation.

We will stand with our Muslim communities against scapegoating and oppose pressures to turn Muslims into an extension of the police. We will unite with Muslims in actively resisting these 'anti-terror' laws and call on other organisations to join with us in building community opposition to abuses of power by government, police and security forces.

This is how we will help build a more peaceful world, free from terrorism against all peoples.

STOP! WRONG WAY! GO BACK!
With its unprecedented powers of secret arrest and detention without trial, the retrospective aspect of control orders, and extended definitions of sedition, the Federal Government's extraordinary new counter-terrorism legislation threatens our way of life no less than terrorism.

Nazi tones in John Howard's anti-terror laws, says Malcolm Fraser
FORMER Liberal prime minister Malcolm Fraser has suggested parts of the Howard Government's anti-terror package resemble measures taken by Adolf Hitler and says Kim Beazley's handling of opposition to the package should determine his leadership.

Arbitrary Detention and Magna Carta
Perhaps some rear-view vision may help you when considering the laws now being proposed regarding arbitrary detention. It is somewhat gratifying that international treaties are belatedly being cited as reasons to oppose this slide into dictatorship, but it is odd that no-one seems to remember what underpins our personal freedom here and the whole of our legal system.

Australia's 'Anti-Terrorism' Bill: the framework for a police state Over the past month, Prime Minister John Howard and the six Australian state premiers and two territory chief ministers have joined hands to draft draconian new laws that will erect the juridical scaffolding for a police-state. The Anti-Terrorism Bill 2005 is unprecedented in both its content and in the conspiratorial methods that have been employed to push it through the state and federal parliaments.

CANBERRA: And welcome to Canberra on the first Tuesday in November for the race that doesn't stop the nation. The Anti-Terrorism Cup. The final horses are being brought into the barriers, and we are almost ready for the start.

Constitution: Defending Against State Terror and Despots
Australia has no major laws that are not derivatives of English Law and all of our major laws rely on British court precedents for interpretation and implementation. These laws and our Constitutional Monarchy system create a situation where, even if Howard and all State Premiers vote unanimously on the Anti-Terrorist laws, and every ALP/Dem/Lib/Nat/Green party hack also votes unanimously on their laws, and even if such laws are given Royal Assent, those laws are still void.

Open Letter to Australian Senate
Every West Australian needs to take note of the proposed terror legislation that will be debated in the Senate next Tuesday. Our own Premier has sold us out, and the time has come for some serious and organised protest in WA to protect our democracy and civil liberties. Write to the Senate, to the papers, and to every political party. This is a fundamental issue that affects the future of our society.

What's the Difference Between CHINA and AUSTRALIA?
If John Howard's terror law comes into effect, what is the difference between China, and Australia? No rifle executions? I think it is time to approach the Governor General, to dissolve Parliament on the basis that the present Government is attempting to achieve Dictatorial Powers.

Cracks in terror solidarity
In remarks that are at odds with the Premier, Morris Iemma's determined support for the legislation, Mr Debus said yesterday: "I think I share the concern about the legislation with plenty of other people. I don't query that we need to have very tough responses to the threat of terrorism [actually though, the community do query it because the actual threat of terrorism is coming from the Government] and I don't query that the premiers have signed off on a framework last month.

Australian Prime Meanster 'tells' States?
Prime meanster john hoWARd's original pact with the states seems to have fallen into disarray because his new anti-liberty laws breach human rights obligations and the commonwealth constitution.

Anti-Terrorism Bill details draconian police-state plans
First and foremost, the legislation provides for extensive detention without charge or trial, on the flimsiest of pretexts. With no notice or legal hearing, any person can be thrown into secret "preventative detention" or placed, by a "control order," in isolation under house arrest.

Shoot to kill on the belief of reasonable grounds is a problem
Provisions in relation to use of force in s105.23 raise serious concerns. In particular subsection 105.23(2) specifically contemplates the use of lethal force against a detainee where an AFP member believes on reasonable grounds that this is necessary to protect life or to prevent serious injury to another person.

ASIO laws: Don't be silenced
The secrecy surrounding the proposed national anti-``terror'' legislation stands in stark contrast to previous ASIO and "anti-terror'' laws that have been subject to scrutiny by parliamentary committees and public hearings.

Brisbane Peace Convergence calls on Beattie to reject terror legislation changes The Brisbane Peace Convergence (BPC) are calling on Premier Peter Beattie to reject the Federal governments proposed amendments to anti-terror laws. SHOOT TO KILL MADNESS AND DRACONIAN LAWS

New anti-terror laws and the Muslim community
On 8 September the Prime Minister introduced a 12-point plan outlining new anti-terror laws [draconian laws to bolster support for John Howard's resource wars in the Middle East] in a press release. Two weeks later he went to the Council of Australian Governments meeting with the proposals. They approved the measures by and large.

Shoot-to-kill bluff
AUSTRALIA: federal labor leader kim sleazley has predicted the federal dictatorship will fail in its push for a shoot-to-kill policy to be included in its counter-terrorism laws.

Sedition Laws Target Peaceful Civil Disobedience
The new Sedition Laws in the anti-terror bills clearly target people who call for acts of non-violent civil disobedience. Under the laws there is no defence for calling for change to any law by anything other than lawful means. Penalty is up to seven years jail.

Stanhope flags doubts on 'hasty' terrorism bill

Stanhope stands his ground
Stanhope: It is bizarre to think legislation of this significance can be rushed into Parliament without consulting a single Australian.

Anti-terrorism laws inquiry 'too short'
Australia: The Opposition says the inquiry effectively gives senators just one day to examine the bills. Labor's homeland security spokesman, Arch Bevis, says the inquiry will be unable to scrutinise whether the legislation provides a balance between security and civil rights.

Australia: Draconian laws draw rights watchdog's ire
Human Rights Watch has condemned Australia's proposed anti-terrorism laws as a "shocking departure" from its historical championing of the rights of the individual.

Dissent Isn't Taken Lightly Down Under
Historian Michael Foley said during times of war pacifists often get mugged. As a nonviolent activist working to end the war in Iraq and the corporate war profiteering that comes with it, September 2005 has been the most surreal time of my life and I definitely feel like I got mugged by Australian Attorney General Phillip Ruddock and the Australian government.

Australia: Rattling the cage

Stop the war on civil liberties!
Prime Minister John Howard is using the "war on terror" to promote widespread fear about "terrorists" and "terrorism" in Australia. This is despite the fact that the biggest act of terror being committed today is being carried out by foreign troops, including Australia's, in occupied Iraq.

Spots and Stripes
It is well known that John Howard, infamous lackey and liar, is devoid of anything that could be remotely regarded as masculine or manly; the draconian measures he has implemented to 'secure' Australia against the terrorist bogeyman are astounding.

They know where you live
Twenty-four hours after the country's leaders agreed to draconian counter-terrorism laws this week, the Attorney-General, Philip Ruddock, was playing down media claims that ASIO believed there were 800 would-be suicide bombers living in Australia.

When Terrorism Outlaws Democracy
On September 27, 2005, Australian democracy surrendered to terrorism. On that day, a coalition of willing federal and state leaders agreed to anti-terrorism legislation that will enable police persecution of the Muslim community and threaten dissidents with imprisonment. In a country without a Bill of Rights, the prospect of more draconian Terror Laws delivers ultimate control through fear. Australia, with its history of penal colonies, racism and detention centers, is now set to become a police state.

Evans: moderate threat
Evans doubts reports that 800 potential terrorists are living in Australia.

No! Your Rights Australia
You have the right to not remain silent.

800 people deemed a potential security risk?
As reported in the Australian today, ASIO has apparently identified up to 800 people deemed a potential security risk. Ruddock says the draconian COAG measures "deal with people who pose a risk to the safety and security of the Australian community." Hmmm, like detained and deported US peace activist Scott Parkin perhaps? What is this broad definition of a "Terrorist"?

Democrat Will Oppose Anti-Terrorism Laws
NSW Democrat MLC, Dr Arthur Chesterfield-Evans, has accused the Premier, Mr Morris Iemma, of selling out to John Howard after agreeing to new 'Anti-Terrorism' laws yesterday. Dr Chesterfield-Evans said the proposed laws agreed to by Morris Iemma will not work.

Mein Kampf by John Howard
Months before Bali Au warships were seen invading Iraqi territorial waters in deliberate provocations under American protection. Bali trio scapegoats for state terror

Scapegoat [File photo] (Rooters)

THREE more men will be used as scapegoats for Indonesian State sanctioned terrorism and charged with involvement in last month's Bali suicide bombings that killed four Australians, Indonesian police said last night.

But you can't always believe what police say especially in Indonesia where state sanctioned terror is rampant.

False reporting

Bali bomber? Azahari dead?

Allegedly the government responsible and or complicit in the Bali bombings and an attack on the Australian embassy in Jakarta cannot now be blamed because the Indonesian authorities claim to have blown up a man they blamed it on.

Azahari bin Husin, the man they claim was responsible but now cannot give any evidence contrary to what has been claimed by the authorities because they alleged to have witnessed that he was blown up.

Quite strange was the fact that the Un-Australian headlined it this morning before any alleged DNA result confirmed the death of the alleged person Azahari bin Husin. Did he even exist? Will you be satisfied with the alleged DNA testing by the Indonesian authorities? Was he the Bali bomber? Did he execute both explosions in the first Bali bombing?

Has he been dead for some time and his DNA stored?

Sorry to tell everyone out there in TV land but there is more to this than meets the air waves and because it is claimed Husin was cornered by police in East Java means you have to trust the Indonesian police?

That article was written as the initial report was broadcast based on the Un-Australian's Newspaper story that morning (with a twist) of course because of the inaccurate reporting by the pro-government media source which couldn't be relied upon, even to wipe your arse!

Just like this story is based on a report from the Daily Terror this morning but unfortunately it is amongst some of the worst of the worst reporting - so it has to be re-rooted to give the reader an honest report.

Anyway, the very next day after the Un-Australian's news break it was then reported that Azahari bin Husin did not now blow himself up and that he was shot by the police instead?

This is a sure sign of a true propaganda experience my friends, let me tell you. These reports had come from numerous sources including reporters on the ground in Indonesia and police themselves?

Now these other men have been chosen as scapegoats for the State sanctioned terror and will be prosecuted under an anti-terror law that carries the death penalty for allegedly assisting the perpetrators of a bombing.

Similarly, we have a ready source of homegrown scapegoats here in Australia too, for the war on terror, home grown. The john HoWARd variety rounded up because police said that they lied during an interview with ASIO?

Scapegoat to stand trial because police said: he lied?

A Sydney man has been committed to stand trial on charges of lying to ASIO.

It wouldn't matter what it was about would it? Okay I'll tell you then!

Because police said Abdul Rakid Hasan lied to them 'twice' and now he has to prove that he didn't lie to them 'twice' by facing two charges one for each alleged lie?

The man was one of eight arrested in last week's counter-terrorism raids.

Abdul Rakid Hasan is charged with two offences of giving false or misleading information, while being interviewed by ASIO, about his association with 'alleged security risk' Willie Brigitte.

True scapegoats Guantanamo Bay style

Officers were questioning the three suspects [scapegoats and patsies] on Bali after bringing them to the resort island from neighbouring Java with their feet and hands chained and heads covered by a sheet.

Police Propaganda

Bali police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Antonius Reniban said police had seized notebooks indicating the men had been planning more attacks. [?]

He said the men were arrested in the city of Semarang last week. He declined to give details of their alleged roles in the October 1 triple suicide attacks at crowded restaurants that killed 20 people and the three bombers.

Last weeks story that was suddenly changed

Last week, police shot and killed a Malaysian militant, Azahari Husin, alleged to have helped plan the blasts. [?]

He is believed to have been a leader of the al-Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiyah terror group and was tracked down after police identified two of the bombers. [?]

The anti-terror law was rushed through Indonesia's Parliament after [false flag call to arms] bombings in Bali in 2002 which killed 202 people, including 88 Australians.

Ed: All we need now is another report from john hoWARd the coward, alexanda drowner, mick guilty, CIA spy sidney jones or any other alleged terrorism expert that the pro-government media choose to rely upon to validate their claims. And that will ensure us scapegoats buy it and the other three scapegoats get the bullet to take the blame for Indonesian/USA/Australian - State Sanctioned Terror.

Oh! I forgot to mention the farewell video made prior the set-up.

Yeah, the story line here is that, on one tape, the three bombers explained to their families why they were about to blow themselves up in three cafes.

Therefore the authorities don't need any proof to convict them. And I didn't mention them possible being 'tortured' to own up to it 'orally' in any court but you can get the idea from the pic! And some pictures tell the real story.

Stay tuned for my next article called:

How to avoid becoming a scapegoat for state sanctioned terror.

Keep it locked!

Thousands more suspects face drug test

* Assessment for treatment for all who test positive
* Thresholds for illegal possession may be raised

UK: All suspects arrested for drug-related crime - currently 240,000 a year - are to be tested for heroin, cocaine and crack by the police under a scheme starting today and those whose results are positive will be required to undergo a compulsory assessment for treatment.

This expansion in compulsory drug testing comes as ministers are considering specific thresholds for the personal possession of different drugs. Carry more and the police will assume you are a dealer.

Home Office officials said last night that the government was "minded to set" the limits at 4ozs of cannabis resin, half a kilo of cannabis leaf, 10 ecstasy tablets, or 7g of heroin or crack cocaine.

The Home Office estimates that the expansion of the police compulsory testing programme from those who are charged with drug-related crimes to all those arrested for such offences means the numbers tested will rise from 80,000 to more than 240,000 a year. More than 2,200 people entered the drug treatment programme by this route last month.

[Why don't they just admit that the war on drugs is lost? Fuckwits!]

The scheme comes into force today in Manchester, Nottingham and South Yorkshire and will follow in the rest of the country next March. First-time drug using offenders will be tested if they are arrested for "trigger offences" including street robbery, burglary, theft and handling stolen goods.

Those who test positive will be required to attend a drug assessment even if they are not charged. A Home Office spokesman said those who refused to provide a sample or undergo the assessment would face a fine of up to £2,500 or three months in prison. The courts are also able to deny bail to someone who refuses assessment or the follow-up treatment and support.

The expansion of the drug intervention programme was announced yesterday by the home secretary, Charles Clarke, in a speech to the national drugs conference in London. It came as Home Office ministers launched a consultation on whether specific limits should be set for the personal possession of heroin, cocaine, crack, ecstasy, amphetamines and cannabis.

The draft limits are based on an informal agreement between Nottinghamshire police and the Crown Prosecution Service. They are: heroin: 7g or 10 or more "wraps" containing 0.1g. Crack cocaine: 7g or 10 wraps of 0.1g. Cocaine: 7g or 10 wraps of 1g. Ecstasy: 10 tablets. Amphetamines: 14g or 10 wraps of 1g. Cannabis: resin - 4ozs or 10 individual pieces; leaf - 0.5 kilos or more than 20 "2 x 2" bags.

The police have resisted setting a specific threshold for cannabis, arguing that it would only lead to street dealers carrying around smaller amounts than the prescribed limits.

Opposition politicians said that the draft thresholds were so high they would make the fight against illegal drug use even harder. "A lot of dealers are going to be let off the hook," said the Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman, Alistair Carmichael.

It emerged yesterday that Brixton police in south London intend to arrest anyone caught with even a small amount of cannabis from December 12 in a drive to tackle the growing number of drug dealers on Brixton high street.

Brixton was the first London area to pilot the police policy of cautioning but not arresting people possessing small amounts of cannabis.

People: 'Prisoners' of Drugs'

People who are addicted to heroin usually take the drug because it relieves them of problems such as low self-esteem, distrust and fear of abandonment. They may have poor communication skills & poor relationship skills.

Blunkett's Quest, but is he on drugs?

The legislation is expected to introduce a new definition of "possession" of an illegal drug, making it an offence to have a certain amount in the bloodstream. This is likely to prove controversial - not least because some drugs, such as cannabis, can remain in the bloodstream for weeks.

POSSESSION? OR INVASION?

UK: This absolutely preposterous idea/theory of allowing a person/s to be possibly charged with 'possession', if found to have a drug substance within their bloodstream, just goes to prove such hypocrisies which certain hierarchies feel justifies passing legislation, is another blow for democracy!
