The New South Wales Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has rejected the idea of new laws against terrorism in Australia. But DPP Nicholas Cowdery says this would go against many basic rights Australians are lucky to have.
Mr Cowdery says there is no need to rush about depriving ordinary people of rights that have been taken for granted for so long.
Mr Cowdery: "The laws that we have in place, 'if they are applied properly' and with discretion, are quite capable of meeting a [CIA false flag, call to arms] Bali situation or any other terrorist situation that might erupt here," he said.
