O'Shane blasts constitution

Controversial New South Wales magistrate Pat O'shane has described the Australian Constitution as flawed and grossly inappropriate.

Dr O'Shane is the chancellor of the University of New England and made the comments during its Frank Archibald Memorial Lecture.

She has challenged the notion that Australia is a democracy, claiming it does not have a defined system of governance, and is manipulated by politicians with a vested interest in keeping Australians ignorant of the constitution.

Dr O'Shane says the way the constitution came into being is a denial of democracy.
