US: SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The jury in the Michael Jackson trial reached a verdict in the 'lies innuendo and exaggeration' inquisition, certainly a conspiracy case against the pop superstar.

Sheriff's deputies and court officials said the verdict was to be read after lawyers and Jackson reached the courthouse. Reserve Deputy Jim Carroll said Jackson was given until 1:45 p.m. local time to reach the courthouse, where Jackson fans yelled, "Michael, innocent."

The jury, which listened to 14 weeks of testimony and arguments, deliberated over seven days before sending word of a verdict at about 12:30 p.m California time.

The announcement came shortly after Judge Rodney Melville issued a statement saying that the jury asked and withdrew a question Monday morning. He also confirmed that on Friday the jury had a read-back of testimony and there were four meetings in chambers with attorneys. News organizations had filed motions seeking information on such developments.

Jackson, 46, was charged with molesting a 13-year-old cancer survivor in 2003, plying him with wine and conspiring to hold the boy and his family captive to get them to rebut a damaging television documentary.

In the documentary, Living With Michael Jackson, Jackson held hands with the boy and told interviewer Martin Bashir that he let children into his bed but it was innocent and non-sexual.

Jackson, who climbed to fame with the Jackson 5 and dominated pop music in the 1980s with the powerhouse Thriller and other albums, was portrayed at trial as a pedophile who lured boys into his bed at his Neverland ranch. The defence called the accuser and his family con artists.

Jackson's career began to lose its lustre after 1993 allegations of child molestation that ended with a multimillion-dollar civil settlement paid to a boy. His lifestyle, two marriages, and drastic changes in appearance became fodder for the " Victim Industry" and tabloid headlines.

Jackson jurors deliberate for week without verdict

Jurors in Michael Jackson's 'lies innuendo and exaggeration' sex-abuse trial' have completed a full week of deliberations without reaching a verdict, prolonging the culmination of a trial that should free the pop star.

The eight women and four men on the jury have spent 30 hours hashing out the question of Jackson's innocence behind closed doors.

They must meet until they reach verdicts on all 10 criminal counts against the 46-year-old entertainer or become deadlocked, causing a hung jury to be declared.

The jurors were driven off in two white vans under police escort after leaving the central California courthouse from behind a newly erected barricade to keep the crowd at bay.

Several hundred Jackson fans from around the world have kept an increasingly anxious vigil over the past week, and police said they were beefing up security for the verdict.

There are also more than 2,000 journalists from 32 countries accredited to the growing media encampment outside court, making the case one of the largest celebrity trials ever.

While there were about 30 or so deputies around court during the trial, that number has now more than doubled.

Jurors in pop star Michael Jackson's 'lies innuendo and exaggeration' sex-abuse trial have ended a shortened fifth day of deliberations without reaching a verdict.

The eight women and four men on the jury have spent 23 hours considering the charges against Jackson.

They put in a short working day of about two-and-a-half-hours because at least one had to attend school graduation ceremonies.

Meanwhile, Jackson has returned to hospital for further treatment on his back.

His spokeswoman, Raymone Bain, says that the 46-year-old entertainer went to Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital for "routine treatment" of back spasms that have pained him throughout the four-month trial.

The singer's black sport utility vehicle, its headlights turned off and his bodyguard at the wheel, raced past reporters and out of the hospital at 12:20am local time.

A black curtain obscured the back seat.

Jackson has made five visits to the hospital in the course of his trial and two since jurors began deliberating.

The verdict should clear him of the abuse charges.

The jury must deliberate until it reaches verdicts on all 10 criminal counts against Jackson or becomes deadlocked and is declared a hung jury by Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville.

As I predicted, the Jury did not come back with a verdict. Look to see it on Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday. Meanwhile another 150 fans and lookee loos have pulled into town and 300 are expected to be at the Courthouse of Santa Maria, on Tuesday. And for those fans paying close attention. there will be a pleasant surprise.

No, Not Joe Jackson, who showed up today, looking for his son Michael, but something else I can not reveal until after Midnight PST. Watch Diane Diamond's face turn shades of rage when the NOT GUILTY verdict come in, as I who live here and know of two of the Jurors. But in my view she is a nut case, and not a reporter or truth. In fact, I can count on my left hand the number of Truth reporters I have seen in this Courtroom. I have told many of them of the sleezy uneven enforcement of the law, and told them were to double check what I say at the local library. Not one has done so. There ain't no money in telling the Truth, if it leads to the conclusion MJJ is getting a Kangaroo Trial. A modern day financial lynching.

I stand alone in my opinion, among those who hold a S.B. Sheriffs Press credential. But heck so did Jesus. I am not saying MJJ is as good as Jesus, but Jesus said, HIS followers would be persecuted. I have seen that MJJ does much good for inner city kids of all races. He has been persecuted.

POINTS FOR THE PROSECUTION
* Prosecutor Ronald J. Zonen summed up the case as being about "the exploitation and sexual abuse of a 13-year-old cancer survivor at the hands of an international celebrity."
* Lest jurors missed his initial point, Zonen likened the waif-like Jackson to a "lion on the Serengeti" on the hunt for prey.
* Make that a "lion on the Serengeti" with a "drinking problem," another of Zonen's charges.
* Zonen said the defense's contention that the boy at the center of the case and his family have simply made up their allegations against Jackson was "unmitigated rubbish."
* Zonen tied in the prior abuse allegations to the current case by arguing that the prosecution proved that Jackson "molested [the current accuser] and numerous other boys." The pop star's MO, then as now, Zonen said, was to "seduce boys into his confidence, into his bedroom and into his bed."
* In the event that jurors missed the above point, Zonen made it again, only pithier, by saying Jackson's accuser was welcomed into "the world of the forbidden."
* Zonen argued that the accuser's mother would be unlikely to make up an allegation such as seeing Jackson lick her son's head because the behavior is so "bizarre." Also, he said, the woman had no way of knowing that Jackson had been accused of doing the "bizarre" deed to another child a decade ago.
* Freed of the judge's vocabulary restrictions, Zonen called porn "pornography," instead of "sexually explicit" materials. He reintroduced jurors to Jackson's pornography stash, too.
* Zonen charged that Mesereau broke a promise to jurors by failing to prove several damaging allegations against the accuser's mother.

POINTS FOR THE DEFENSE
* Defense attorney Thomas Mesereau Jr. summed up the case as being about "the life, the future, the freedom and the reputation of Michael Jackson."
* Mesereau said his client "must be acquitted."
* While Mesereau did not manage to make a rhyme with "acquitted," he did manage to disparage the accuser and the boy's family as "con artists, actors and liars."
* Mesereau brought that above point home by saying, "There is no way in the world you can find that [the accuser and his family] are trustworthy beyond a reasonable doubt."
* Mesereau said it was "absurd" to charge that Jackson molested his accuser at the same time he was "under the microscope" for the 2003 Martin Bashir documentary, Living with Michael Jackson.
* Mesereau said it was "absurd" to charge that Jackson, a man who "likes to sit in a tree and do music," orchestrated a plot to abduct children and send them away to Brazil.
¥ Mesereau said it was absurd, a paraphrase this time, that Jackson would give a child, much less an ex-cancer patient, alcohol in order to set up the boy to be molested.
* Pulling the CSI card, Mesereau said there was no DNA evidence to link Jackson to his accuser. (In child-abuse cases, there rarely is.)
* Mesereau pointed out all the prosecution witnesses who blew up on the prosecution, such as Jackson ex-wife Debbie Rowe, and all the alleged Jackson molestation victims who came to court to deny being molested, such as Macaualay Culkin.
* Mesereau accused the prosecution of a "barbaric attempt" to destroy Jackson by ridiculing everything from his penchant for legal porn to his reputedly troubled finances.
* Mesereau accused Zonen of being mean to him because the prosecutor didn't have a case.

Jackson hospitalised from court therapy

US: Pop star Michael Jackson, who is awaiting a jury to deliver a verdict in his accusers lies, innuendo and exaggeration trial, was rushed to a California hospital on Sunday with severe back pain, a spokeswoman said.

The gruelling trial, packed with graphic testimony seems to have taken a heavy toll on Jackson, who looks gaunt, thin and has shuffled slowly to and from the courtroom each day.

"He is at the emergency room," Adean King said, a Jackson publicist.

"His back fired up again," she said, adding the pop megastar planned to return later in the day to his Neverland ranch, a few miles from the Santa Ynez Cottage hospital where he was treated.

"It's the same problem he's had throughout the trial, it's been bothering him all week," Ms King said.

"Since it's a slow day he decided to have it checked."

Jackson had undergone treatment two to three times during the trial for his back ailment, which he said happened on March 10 when he fell to the ground after stepping out of a shower.

An official at the hospital declined to give details of Jackson's treatment.

"We cannot confirm or deny anything, as per his request," she said.

Jackson's spokeswoman Raymone Bain said on Friday the back complaint had been exacerbated by the air conditioning system in the courtroom, where the pop star has been sitting through six hours a day of testimony, five days a week.

Jackson's back complaint almost cost him his freedom and $US3 million bail in March, after he turned up in court late, and in pyjamas, and Judge Rodney Melville had issued a warrant for his arrest.

The bail was restored and the prospect of the pop megastar spending the rest of the trial in jail lifted at the end of that day's proceedings, during which Jackson's 13-year-old accuser testified.

On Thursday, Jackson stopped by the same hospital.

Earlier today, the jury heard the closing arguments in the bitter four-month trial. Jackson, 46, has pleaded not guilty to 10 charges of molesting his teenage accuser in 2003.

He faces more than 20 years in prison if he is convicted.

Jackson's spokeswoman Ramone Bain says although the trial itself was difficult, the wait for the verdict will be worse.

"This is going to be the worst part of the trial, even though he has been concerned about being vilified and the untruths that he has had to sit here and listen to," he said.

" This is the hardest part now, the waiting game."

Earlier, Judge Rodney Melville told the eight women and four men of the panel to start their deliberations by selecting a foreperson.

"You are not partisans or advocates in this matter, you are the impartial judges of the facts," he told them.

The trial judge told jurors each one of them must strive to make up their minds, but also warned them not to hesitate to change their opinions if they felt it was right.

Judge Melville also told Jackson he could remain at his Neverland estate until a verdict is reached.

"Mr Jackson, I have no problem with you being at your residence," he said.

The jury was sent out after prosecutor Ron Zonen wrapped up his rebuttal of the defence closing arguments.

"You just witnessed the seven worst minutes of this young man's life,"

Mr Zonen said after playing a video for jurors of a police interview with Jackson's alleged victim filmed in July 2003.

Jackson's chief defence lawyer earlier urged jurors to acquit the singer, saying the case was built on "lies, innuendo and exaggeration".

After four months of court proceedings, Thomas Mesereau said the family of Jackson's teenage sex accuser were liars and scam artists and that prosecutors had failed to prove the singer's guilt.

He accused prosecutors of telling jurors of alleged previous and uncharged cases of sex abuse by Jackson only to smear the star.
